This position helps ensure that UW SoN IT initiatives are aligned with the School's Mission and Vision, as well as the strategic direction of the University of Washington's Information Technology department (UW-IT).Under the general direction of the University of Washington School of Nursing (UW SoN) Assistant Director of Learning and Information Technologies, as part of the SoN Infrastructure Operations team, Systems Administrators support the operation of a complex networked computing environment to meet the School's current and emerging information technology needs.This position is a critical member of the SoN operations, providing technological expertise in the areas of academic, staff, and student IT matters. The position implements best practices and guidelines for all IT efforts within the SoN. The Systems Administrator must stay abreast of technology changes to make appropriate recommendations regarding maintenance and upgrades to UW SoN IT systems. They provide critical technical support to UW SoN faculty and staff, and play a key role in supporting the on-going mission and strategic plan of the School of Nursing. This position must ensure that UW SoN initiatives are aligned with the UW SoN Mission and Vision, and with strategic direction from UW-IT.Responsibilities:This position is supervised by the Assistant Director of Learning and Information Technologies, who directly manages our Infrastructure Operations, and who reports to the Director of L&IT. Work assignments are directed by the Assistant Director on issues related to computing services, information/knowledge management and other duties based on feedback from helpdesk, monitoring systems, user feedback, and personal initiative. Work assignments related to curricular support technologies, distance learning and Instructional systems are derived from the Director of Learning and Information Technologies and are assigned by the Assistant Director.The SoN's network is composed primarily of Windows servers in Active Directory running in an outsourced Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) environment. Workstations consist of PC running Windows and Macs running OSX.Operations Oversee the day-to-day operations of a complex computing and network environment that includes on-prem and cloud servers and services, on-prem and mobile workstations, printers, and networked appliances.Analyze and resolve issues with complex systems consisting of servers, workstations, mobile devices, and cloud services.In collaboration with the central University of Washington Information Technology (UW-IT) department, analyze, test, document, and troubleshoot a large and complex network spanning multiple TCP/IP subnets and physical locations.Ensure high service availability.Develop and maintain operational documentation of IT servers and services.Research, recommend, and implement information management process and procedure best practices to ensure that all UW SoN data is protected through appropriate security, redundancy, and backups.Maintain, investigate, design, and configure remote access services to support global productivity.Analyze and revise UW SoN's IT systems to ensure they are compliant and consistent with regulations from HIPAA, FERPA, the UW Human Subject Review Board, and the UW Administrative Policy.Work with the UW SoN IT Sr. Interactive Developer to support a robust and reliable web hosting platform that supports the school's 30 websites.Design, deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot applications, systems, and servers.Continuous Service ImprovementUsing their knowledge of the state of the art, and leveraging expert-level experience, the Systems Administrator will identify and recommend system and service upgrades, additions, and retirements to maintain a modern, stable IT infrastructure.Consult with UW SoN departments and functional units, analyze their unique business requirements, and design and deploy sustainable infrastructure strategies.Consult with UW SoN Learning Technologies to design, deploy, and maintain media and web services to support their mission.Other duties Perform other duties as required to support the ongoing mission and strategic plans of the SoN.Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.At least 4 years of increasing responsibilities while delivering information technology services in a complex environment.
