POSITION SUMMARY:
- The position of Utility Laborer requires working as part of a team performing all tasks involved in the production and packaging of U.P. Paper product. Work assignments require availability and a willingness to work 12-hour shifts, holidays, and weekends.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Train in multiple positions 5th Hand, Material Handler, and Wrapper.
- Clean as you go philosophies ensuring neat and clean work areas.
- Adhere to applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for health, safety, and environmental compliance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- No supervisory responsibilities required for this position.
INTERDEPARTMENTAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Requires adaptability/flexibility to work in all production divisions of the plant.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem only recognizing there is a problem.
- The ability to listen to and understand information and instruction presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Job requires being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good natured, cooperative attitude.
- Job requires being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:
- Clear communication (oral and written) skills.
- Some previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not required if possessing appropriate skills.
- Employees will be trained for several cycles working with an experienced employee.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Working indoors and outdoors in cold and hot environment.
- Exposure to cold, warm, and humid conditions.
SAFE WORK PRACTICES:
- Diligently monitor work area for any potential safety hazards and react appropriately/efficiently to eliminate potential accidents.
- Complete accident reports as needed, with support from the Safety Director.
- Support operations management team in safety program initiatives.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms, and back such as handling product.
- Job requires standing on feet and or walking throughout the entire work shift.
- The ability to quickly and repeatedly bend, stretch twist, or reach out with your body and arms requiring flexibility.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS:
- Steel toed and slip resistant boots/shoes when in production areas.
- Safety glasses will be supplied and are required at all times in the production area.
- Ear plugs required in ALL Production areas.
