What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Analyst position at UPMC?
Upon successful completion of on-site training, the Data Analyst will have the option to work on-site or from home.
Purpose:
Implements the data collection processes and report generation processes for the Cardiovascular Service's databases and miscellaneous data collection projects.
Responsibilities:
- Implements and coordinates data collection processes related to the Cardiology and/or Open Heart Surgery registries.
- Creates and runs reports to find patient records that will need abstracted for registry.
- Performs chart abstraction and data entry related to the Cardiology and/or Open Heart Surgery databases.
- Verifies accuracy of data abstracted and data entered into the database.
- Validates cases and uploads abstracted data to the registries.
- Creates, customizes and generates reports and statistics pertinent to the needs of physicians and other relevant departments throughout the Heart Institute. This responsibility may at times require a flexible work schedule.
- Coordinates and facilitates communications with hospital areas and persons that utilize cardiovascular data and provide support to personnel interacting with the database.
- Attends Registry data quality meetings and conferences to stay up to date with clarifications and changes in data definitions or quality metrics.
- Makes phone calls to patients, if needed, to measure long term follow-up.
- Participates in process improvement projects and data quality initiatives.
- Maintains high level of security of patient and physician information.
- Participates in Interrater Reliability exercises to ensure consistency of data collection.
- Assists with Registry audits.
- Communicates with other hospital departments when needed to obtain accurate data.
