UPMC Shadyside’s Gastrointestinal Lab works closely with standard endoscopies and colonoscopies, as well as advanced procedures such as feeding tube placements, EUS, and ERCP. There are many advanced skills and opportunities to learn within our department! Our team has hands-on involvement with the admission of inpatients and outpatients for GI procedures and IV starts. You will have extensive handling in the administration of moderate sedation, assisting and documenting GI procedures, and function as an endoscopy technician role. You will be skilled in endoscope handling. Our nurses take a needed role in the recovery process of GI lab patients. Our team boasts an experienced, competent team that has an extremely positive working relationship with the physicians and other department personnel!

Schedule:

• Monday-Friday
• (4) 10-hour shifts or (5) 8-hour shifts depending on preference
  • Shifts for 10s rotate between 6:30 am to 5 pm and 7:15 am - 5:45 pm
  • Shifts for 8s rotate 7:15 am to 5:45 pm and 9:15 am - 5:45 pm
• Call required
  • One night per week and one weekend out of every 6 weeks

Purpose:

The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Senior Professional Staff Nurse encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.
