Description
Responsible for management and daily operation of Echocardiography departments at five hospitals, ten outpatient sites and a large and extensive research program within the UPMC Central Region. Responsible for the oversight of the daily age-specific patient testing activities and care within the clinical and technical scope of services provided by the various departments.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain optimal staffing levels at all sites to optimize the timely completion of patient testing. Monitor changing workload patterns with staffing assignments.
- Conduct quality audits that measure and monitor such variables as: timely test completion, accuracy of test results, timeliness of results reporting, timeliness of physician signature, and timeliness of patient scheduling. Initiate changes as necessary to enhance efficiency and/or productivity.
- Ensures compliance with all safety, procedural and accrediting standards required by Federal, State, JCAHO, DOH, or other regulatory organizations and accreditations.
- Serve as a technical resource for Echocardiography labs; maintain accreditation for all echo labs; maintain compliance with accrediting standards and expectations; coordinate routine quality assurance meetings as per ICAEL guidelines.
- Provide a supportive environment for the clinical education of ultrasound students from various schools, colleges, etc
- Specifically define those traits and characteristics necessary to perform at a high level for each job description. (Periodically review and adjust as necessary)
- Develop and utilize behavior based interviewing techniques that look for defined traits / characteristics in the perspective applicant.
- Responsible for interviewing and hiring of staff within the department.
- Support individual staff efforts for professional certification and/or registry.
- Work with department Clinical Coordinator to facilitate on-going section specific in-services.
- Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings
- Interacts with other departments as appropriate and necessary.
- Must be aware of the internal and external trends within each field and develop appropriate policies and procedures.
- Communicate all policy and procedural changes to the staff.
- Responsible for controlling costs within each department. Develop and monitor budget and expenses. Recommend improvement strategies to meet objectives.
- Work directly with Biomed and equipment manufacturers to optimally maintain all diagnostic equipment.
- Assist the Director in completing the capital equipment and operating budget on a yearly basis. Keep up-to-date on equipment advances and new developments with procedure techniques.
- Regularly visit each facility / site and seek staff input.
- Annually review and update policies and procedures as needed.
- Build effective working relationships with physicians, senior management, patients, hospital visitors, and sales and service representatives.
Qualifications
- A Bachelors Degree or equivalent training and experience within the cardiovascular field.
- Three to five years of supervisory experience.
- Registered in echocardiography through RDCS or RCS
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Registry required in area of specialty. CPR/BLs required
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
