SUMMARY OF JOB:
The Credentialing Clerk is responsible for establishing and maintaining insurance contracts for the clinic’s physicians and assisting with the day-to-day operations of the department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with third party credentialing company to credential all new physicians and maintain credentialing with contracted insurance carriers.
- Assists with accounts payable tasks as needed. Includes entering data into accounting system and paying invoices online.
- Responsible for the initial credentialing process for incoming physicians.
- Obtains initial hospital privileges for new physicians.
- Assists with the training of staff on contracted insurance issues.
- Provides administrative and clerical support to physicians for medical license renewals, re-credentialing, hospital reappointments and privileges and mal-practice insurance applications and controlled substance certificates.
- Updates and maintains physician files and curriculum vitae.
- Is responsible for knowing the work schedule, observing work hours and maintaining a good attendance record. (See attached attendance and punctuality requirements.)
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, physicians, patients, customers and the public.
- Follows all corporate and departmental policies and procedures and complies with the Employee Handbook.
- Performs other tasks as needed or directed.

DEGREE OF SUPERVISION:
Performs duties under general supervision.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
A. Reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
B. Must be a graduate of an accredited high school.
C. Requires at least 2 years of work experience in the
field of insurance.
D. Must have good manual dexterity for operating office equipment. Must be able to function in an office setting. Must be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute.
E. Must be able to transcribe information received including insurance coverage, social security and telephone numbers without error.
F. Physical activity involves typing, writing, reaching, carrying, looking, listening, talking, bending, lifting, standing, walking, and much sitting, resulting in light work.
G. Light - must be able to lift or carry up to 10 pounds of
weight up to 10 feet occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time), or a negligible amount
of weight up to 10 feet frequently (from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time). Light work
requires sitting most of the time, but may involve periods of standing and walking
depending on task requirements.
H. Works in an office setting, which is well lighted, ventilated and temperature regulated. Must be able to concentrate on work tasks amidst distractions, such as noise, conversations and foot traffic. Must be able to work in a confined area performing repetitive work for extended periods of time.
I. In office minimal.
J. Must have responsible, ethical and professional manner with the ability to listen, learn, plan and organize. Must be able to communicate with people of different races, sexes, ages and social classes.
K. Must have a valid driver’s license or picture identification and a Social Security card or work permit.
