About Us
US Math Recovery Council® (USMRC) was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2003, with headquarters currently located in Eagan, Minnesota. Since its incorporation in 2003, US Math Recovery Council has been delivering high quality professional development for mathematics throughout the United States. In 2012-2013, the organization transitioned from a management company and consultant model to an employee model with the direction of its thirteen-member Board of Directors. Today, US Math Recovery Council is a thriving organization.
The mission of US Math Recovery Council is to transform numeracy education, connect research with practice, and empower educators to advance student mathematical thinking and success through Math Recovery principles.
The vision of US Math Recovery Council is to create and foster attitudes, cultures, and climates that lead to change in mathematics learning and teaching practices.
US Math Recovery Council is seeking board members with the following qualifications:
- Currently employed as a university faculty member
- Research track record focused in at least one of the following areas: equity/equitable teaching, elementary mathematics teaching/teacher education
- K-8 teaching experience (K-4 preferred)
Board Member Responsibilities
- Attend board and committee meetings.
- Serve on committees or task forces and offer to take on special assignments.
- Collaborate to set the long-term strategic direction and vision for USMRC.
- Approve long-range plans, annual objectives, and budgets developed to meet the long-term strategic direction and vision for the organization.
- Approve and maintain USMRC Policies and Procedures.
- Suggest possible nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and the organization; Ensure the annual election of USMRC officers and board members.
- Keep up-to-date on developments in the organization’s field.
- Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies.
- Assist the board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, such as reviewing the organization’s annual financial statements.
Board Member Time Commitment
- Term begins June 2025
- Meet virtually as a full Board approximately 4 times a year in the evening. Each meeting runs for approximately 1-2 hours.
- Attend a multi-day in-person Board Retreat at the USMRC office in Eagan, MN. This typically occurs the first weekend in August (Thursday-Sunday).
- Participation on at least one committee. Each committee sets their own meeting schedule.
- Our Board members serve three-year terms. Members can serve up to two consecutive terms. Former Board members are eligible for Board member nomination once a full calendar year has elapsed following their last term.
