Duties

  • Conduct law enforcement duties at interior and exterior gates by ensuring proper Identification of all pedestrians or motor traffic.
  • Perform patrol duties alone and take action based upon knowledge of laws, statutes, and procedures.
  • Utilize all collection procedures of evidence for use in investigations and prosecutions.
  • Write reports of incidents.
  • Conduct search of persons and vehicles entering or leaving the installation as directed or when probable cause exists.
  • Maintain traffic control at shift changes; enforce traffic regulations controls.
  • Serve on permanent or rotating shifts at fixed access control points (ACP), or vehicle patrols assigned to a specific area.
  • Ensure security of access to installation, buildings, and areas within the installation in order to protect critical property.
  • Maintain vigilance against acts of sabotage, espionage, theft, violence, and infractions of rules.
  • May be required to perform Desk Sergeant/Dispatch responsibilities.
  • Determine degree of severity of the incident or accident and to be able to dispatch appropriately qualified team (experience and/or special training) to investigate and/or to lend assistance as appropriate.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Hours of work are subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy within 1 year of hire, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • Incumbent must take a Physical Agility Test (PAT) yearly and pass.
  • Incumbent must wear a uniform and comply with the Army Civilian Police Dress and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience for the GS-7: One year of specialized experience which includes experience applying laws and regulations to law enforcement operations, practices and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property, or experience such as assisting with law enforcement preliminary investigations, pursuing/apprehending persons fleeing a crime scene or attempting to resist arrest, performing criminal investigative duties which include preserving evidence and interrogating suspects. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments or in performing criminal investigative duties. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
