What are the responsibilities and job description for the GI Technician (Full-Time) position at USPI?
Assists with technical aspects of endoscopy under the direction of the physician and/or Endoscopy RN. Maintains and cleans endoscopy equipment. Provides patient care within prevailing national and state standards of practice and the policies of the facility. Communicates appropriate information to other team members. May have additional responsibilities as designated by the Clinical Nurse Manager which include, but are not limited to, providing patient care in other perioperative departments, serving on committees, participating in QA/Performance Improvement audits and projects.
Required Skills:
- Knows and adheres to policies of the facility and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
- Follows standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for endoscopy care according to accepted standards.
- Prepares endoscopy suite and equipment prior to procedures according to hospital policies and specific physician’s orders.
- Maintains adequate supplies in room. Terminally disinfects and cleans room and equipment before and after patient care.
- Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge in endoscopy procedures, their purpose, expected results and safety factors involved, endoscopy equipment, GI tract anatomy, emotional/social support of patients and families, medical terminology and other needed clinical competencies.
- Remains calm and functions as a team member during times of stress and crisis situations.
- Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood borne pathogens.
- Uses good body mechanics.
- Informs Clinical Nurse Manager of applicable day-to-day situations.
- Follows employee health and other personnel and staffing policies.
- Maintains confidentiality of patients and the facility.
Required Experience:
High school diploma. One year experience in outpatient endoscopy, surgery or related field desired. Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of position.
