Job Summary | To utilize advanced professional skills and abilities in the treatment of patients with various mental health disorders. Responsible for diagnosing, treating, and helping to prevent mental illnesses found in a cadre of patients seeking treatment interventions at UT Arlington Health Services. Collaborate with other Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) providers, Health Services medical staff, and members of the campus community. Provide medical and psychiatric expertise in the evaluation and treatment of patients with emphasis on psychopharmacology, differential diagnosis and evaluation of mental disorders. |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities | Analyze and evaluate patient data and test findings to diagnose nature and extent of mental disorder. Design individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments. Provide crisis intervention and/or short term psychotherapy as needed. Provide general counseling on wellness, generalized health, and self-care. Referral to medical providers as needed. Prescribe and direct administration of psychopharmacologic medications to treat mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Serve as collaborating physician for psychiatric nurse practitioners working in the mental health department and counseling professionals in the CAPS department, conduct periodic peer reviews of charts and discuss difficult cases. Provide in-house consultation and continuing education on psychiatry for other UT Arlington Health Services providers. |
Required Qualifications | Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in any discipline. A graduate degree of Doctor of Medicine from a fully accredited medical school. Four (4) years of post-doctoral training as a psychiatry resident in a program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the equivalent experience. Board certified or board eligible in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. and licensed to practice medicine in the state of Texas. In possession of an active DEA number and authorized to prescribe controlled substances III-V or authorization pending. |
