Job Summary | Print & Mail Services is owned and operated by the University of Utah, is part of Auxiliary Services, and is expected to be self-supporting, receiving state funds only for non-revenue generating services; such as, centralized Campus Mail services. The department is comprised of five units, each supported by an Administrative Manager:

Responsibilities | With your leadership team, create a print and mail operation that fosters leadership, professionalism, and provides vision and direction in accordance with University goals and objectives. Establish long-range financial, customer service, and service offering objectives that best support the University’s Mission of providing excellence in education and service. Set an example of and reinforces superior business ethics. Insists upon integrity and accuracy of the delivered product/service, operations, and documents. Lead and direct the management team by providing, monitoring, and evaluating performance and progress in meeting established objectives. Establish and maintain policies and procedures to address operational and long-term profitability and customer service goals, including; a quality finished product/service, on-time delivery, value add, cash handling, pricing standards, spoilage prevention, and customer relations. Establish and maintain internal controls for quality, accounts receivables, and payables. Provide regular updates regarding the financial and operational status of the department for University Administration. Provide leadership and vision related to technology and systems used to conduct online and in-person business. Provide leadership and vision related to hiring, salary levels, retention, career building, equity, diversity, inclusion, and utilization of employee resources. Provide training and guidance in work responsibilities; plan, assign, and direct work; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems. Recommend, support, and encourage training programs, work environments, and compensation that are fair and equitable, and improve employee job performance and satisfaction. Create and support a professional, safe, and secure work environment. Foster and coordinate interaction between Print & Mail Services and University Departments. Respond to internal and external concerns and recommendations with resolutions in coordination with the Associate Vice President of Auxiliary Services. Research and recommend programs, policies, and procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of print and mail service offerings, including technology, internal controls, and customer service. Other duties and projects as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Auxiliary Services. Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area, or equivalency; eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. |
Preferences | Bachelor’s degree plus ten years production industry experience (University preferred) and five years supervising in a production environment; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above duties. Broad knowledge of print and mail operations and management. Become immediately familiar or knowledgeable of related policies specific to print and mail operations at an institution of higher education. Must be proficient in the use of a computer, including the Microsoft Suite, and print/mail industry MIS such as Presswise, Printsmith, or other similar software systems. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be self-motivated and have the initiative to work independently to meet production objectives, deadlines, and resolve customer, employee, and/or vendor issues. Experience as a member of the senior management team at a print and mail operation at a Tier 1 Research Institution. |
