Role Objective: As a Junior Litigation Attorney, you will be joining our litigation team to work on various aspects of our tax cases, including litigation, research, drafting legal documents, and representing clients in court and before government agencies under the guidance of experienced attorneys. The ideal candidate is one who has a strong interest in litigation and wishes to build a career in this area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist senior attorneys in preparing for court proceedings, hearings, and
depositions.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support case strategies.
  • Draft and review complaints, pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in team meetings, client meetings and case strategy sessions.
  • Attend court proceedings and hearings, gaining valuable courtroom experience.
  • Maintain organized case files and documentation.
  • Prepare and present persuasive arguments in court to advocate for clients
during trials, hearings, and settlement conferences.
  • Keep clients informed about the progress of their cases and promptly respond to
their inquiries.
  • Stay current with legal developments and changes in relevant laws and
regulations.
  • Uphold ethical and professional standards throughout all interactions and
proceedings.

Professional Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission / Pending Admission to the state bar of Michigan and in good
standing.
  • Previous internship or clerkship experience in litigation (preferred but not
required).
  • Admission to the Federal Court of Claims is a plus (but not required)
  • Proficiency in legal research tools, Office 365, and case management software.
  • General understanding of litigation as well as federal & state tax laws.
Required Skills:
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced legal setting.
  • Demonstrate strong professional and legal writing skills
  • Be able to research, analyze, and understand legal documents and case law.
  • Comfortable engaging directly with clients via phone, in person, or e-mail.
  • Comfortable with technology and the use of computers, printers, fax machines,
etc.
  • Engage in clear, effective and proactive verbal or written communication with your team, clients, and all other professionals
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Works well as part of a team or independently, depending on the needs of the
case.
  • Willingness to work beyond the standard office hours, including some evenings
and weekends, as needed.
