JOB TITLE:   

Outdoor Program Climbing Wall Assistant  

JOB PURPOSE:   

As part of the Campus Recreation Department, the Outdoor Program helps recruit and retain students, faculty and staff by providing a wide range of inclusive, safe, reasonably priced, and accessible outdoor programs and services to the UW community. We expose and guide individuals in the natural environment, provide skill and leadership development opportunities, and facilitate peer to peer interactions and fun. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

• Provide high-quality customer service in the Climbing Gym setting
  • Check roped climbers for up-to-date testing certification and rent climbing equipment
  • Perform regular equipment inspection including ropes, harnesses, and anchors
  • Regularly conduct both top rope and lead climbing safety checks with patrons
  • Supervise the climbing area for safety including bouldering, rope climbing, and use of the autobelay; be willing to step in when there is an issue
  • Maintain a clean and tidy space through regular cleaning 
• Be able and assured to work at heights safely
• Create a physically and emotionally safe and inclusive environment at the Climbing Wall
  • Work effectively with other students and Program Coordinators
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings
  • Obtain and maintain necessary certifications including American Red Cross Basic First Aid/CPR/AED & Biohazard Training offered through Campus Recreation for no cost

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

University of Wyoming student 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

Previous rope climbing experience is preferred. Must have a willingness and excitement to learn climbing wall related skills. Experience with route setting is a plus.
