ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
· Plans, coordinates, and supervises the flow of work of internal audit staff.
· Perform audits of assigned offices and departments.
· Monitor audit completions and provide audit status to Auditor, County Judge, Commissioners and District Judges on a quarterly basis.
· Review Local Government Code and other statutes to ensure integrity of Val Verde County’s compliance with statutory audit guidelines established by the State and County.
· Interact and communicate with elected officials, department heads and department personnel on the status of ongoing audits.
· Review all completed audits and verify accuracy of documentation prior to submission to appropriate office or department.
· Perform other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field, with 1 to 3 years audit and/or management experience. CIA or CFE certification preferred. Experience maybe substituted for education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
· Working knowledge of Texas Local Government Code and other statutes
· Ability to interpret and communicate statutes
· Knowledge of the office or department being audited
· Basic accounting knowledge
· Proficient in audit procedures
· Strong analytical skills
· Banking and bank reconciliation knowledge
· Proficient in computer software applicable to the position, Excel, Word, Outlook, and audit software, such as IDEA.
· Internet research skills
· Follow oral and written instructions and procedures
· Customer service skills
· Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
· Interpersonal, management and organizational skills
· Communicate in English effectively both orally and in writing
· Read, analyze, and interpret standards, policies, procedures, and regulations · Develop and write reports, policies, and correspondence
· Exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job
· Meet schedules and deadlines of the work unit
· Adapt to changes in work situations and priorities
· Establish and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal relationships with staff, peers, supervisors, or managers in the work unit and other departments, as well as with staff of outside entities and other individuals, as applicable to the essential duties and responsibilities
