VHB’s growing Westbrook, ME office has an immediate need for a Survey Crew Chief to join our Survey team. VHB will consider out of state per diem candidates with the right experience. This position requires travel, working 6 days per week, 10 hours per day, on large scale surveying projects that support natural gas pipeline, electric transmission, and other large scale energy projects.

About the Position
Survey Crew Chief | Westbrook, ME
Responsibilities
- Direct the activities of a survey crew in the performance of Boundary/ALTA surveys, Topographic surveys, Construction and post construction surveys, and transportation surveys.
- Maintain proper care of survey equipment
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements
- Maintain documentation of all phases of survey work
- Perform public records research
- Use public records in execution of survey field work
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in reading, understanding, and evaluating the significance of survey, right-of-way, engineering and architectural drawings with respect to each survey project
- Proficient in operation of total station with electronic data collecting capability
- Proficient in operation of GPS equipment
- Proficient in operation of auto level equipment
- Proficient in field survey methods and techniques
- Ability to perform tasks independently and to assign and review work of others
- Detail-oriented
- Able to think critically
- Possess excellent communication skills
- Proficient in fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
- Motivated to lead and mentor others
- Desire for continued growth in the Land Surveying profession
Qualifications
- 5 years of progressive professional land surveying experience
- Associate or Bachelor degree in Land Surveying/Engineering or related field helpful, but not required
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D desirable, but not required
- Experience with Microstation, Inroads and OpenRoads desirable, but not required
- Experience with Leica survey equipment desirable, but not required
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) desirable, but not required
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- Must be willing to travel and stay overnight for assignments outside local area (anticipated to be less than 15% of assignments)
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
