Vanderbilt University Public Safety Department has an immediate opening for a CSO III for the MRB III Loading Dock assignment.

The Community Service Officer III (CSO III) Loading Dock assignment is part of the Vanderbilt University Public Safety Department assigned to promote a safe and secure environment for all vendors, employees, and contractors as part of the loading dock services for both VUMC and Vanderbilt School of Medicine. 

General Information

•   Assignment Location: MRB III Loading Dock; 21st Ave. S at Edgehill 
•   Schedule/Shift: Monday – Friday; 6:00 am – 2:00 pm 
•   Pay rate: $22.00 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities

Assignment Information

The Community Service Officer III (CSO III) Loading Dock assignment is part of the Vanderbilt University Public Safety Department assigned to promote a safe and secure environment for all vendors, employees, and contractors as the dock services both VUMC and Vanderbilt School of Medicine. Assignment responsibilities are outlined below:

•   Ensure individuals entering the building have valid credentials if part of University/VUMC or sign in if contractor/visitor/guest.
•   Report incidents of a criminal or critical nature to VUPS for the appropriate resolution and/or mitigation response.
•   Enforce parking rules within the dock area.
•   Ensure no employees park within that area.  
•   Issue parking citations as needed.
•   Enforce the visitor management policy in conjunction with VU/VUMC staff.
•   Conducts and coordinates traffic direction during peak times of the day at the dock entrance.
•   Tracks all activity on a Daily Activity Log and submits it to the Campus Captain daily.
•   Work with approved contacts within VU/VUMC regarding delivery issues or concerns.
•   Partner with the School of Medicine regarding dock oversight training.

Qualifications
•   High school diploma or GED is required.
•   18 years of age is required. 
•   A valid driver's license in the State of Tennessee is required.
•   Possession of a Private Protective Services Act certification is required.
•   CPR and AED certification or become certified within 90 days is required. 
•   Completion of Pressure Point Control Tactics, Asp Baton, pepper spray, or similar training is required.

Experience and Skills
•   Previous experience working as a lead Security Officer is necessary.
•   Excellent customer service skills is required.
•   Effective written and oral communication skills are necessary.
•   Experience working with MS Word Excel, and other computer programs is preferred.
•   Ability to organize and prioritize assignments and tasks is necessary.
•   Ability to function in a multi-tasking environment is necessary.
•   Ability to operate computerized equipment and a two-way radio is required.
•   Demonstrated ability to problem-solve is required.
•   Ability to use handheld license plate reader to issue citations.
•   Prior experience as a supervisor is preferred.

Physical Requirements
Community Service Officers III must be able to:
•   Stand for long periods.
•   Walk, climb, and lift.
•   Meet written departmental standards on appearance/grooming.
•   Pass a thorough background investigation. 
•   Must obtain immunizations and medical tests as required to be able to work in patient care and high-risk areas.

Working Environment
•   Required to work nights/weekends/holidays
•   Must be able to work in inclement weather and various weather extremes
•   May encounter such things as hazardous materials, infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, steam, car battery acid, loud  noises, smoke, and fire
•   Must be able to correctly use a TB Mask and other precautionary equipment 
•   May encounter physical danger from violent patients, suspects, and others.
