What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Commissioning Agent position at VCA Green?
VCA Green is seeking a candidate with a strong mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering background or CxA capable of performing commissioning and acceptance testing with VCA Green.
You’ll learn about our firm : people, culture, clients and processes and then hit the ground running toward achieving the goals and objectives for the department.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to : review of MEP plans, technical submittals with the owner’s requirements, Review project requirements, and complete the Commissioning Plans.
You’ll need and utilize your excellent communication and inter-personal skills for interactions with internal and external individuals.
This also requires successfully assisting with multiple, simultaneous projects in various states of completion for our consulting services along with diverse project design teams.
We anticipate that you’ll possess the depth and breadth of experience to commission, inspect, test, and report on all field aspects of a project within 12 months on the job.
Key Deliverables during the 12 months :
During the first 30-45 days :
- Learn about VCA-Green, its history, services, employees, projects and clients. Additionally, learn about VCA Consultants and its history, etc.
- Familiarize self with projects and internal work systems.
- Review technical submittals for compliance with Owner’s requirements.
- Update pre-functional checklists and functional performance tests
- Learn what systems and software programs are used within the Green department.
- Be capable of utilizing the Field Reporting app.
Within two months : Engage in site observation visits
- Learn about the various project phases of current and deliverables for the project team, and how we complete project registrations for final certification;
- Learn about VCA’s reporting process and be capable of inputting project updates.
- Understand and explain Cx process and documents.
- Attend at least three green building kick-off meetings, or other events to meet others in the field of sustainability, make contact, and understand how this process works for future reference.
Within three months of employment
Fully understand VCA’s Cx process.
- Completed one of more final functional tests.
- Complete final compliance documentation at end of project.
- Prepare executive summary at project completion.
- Take responsibility for at least 2 small- to medium-sized projects, consisting of either retail and / or residential construction projects. Including :
- Working with clients and other stakeholders involved in the project.
- Submit required documents for review and approval, and make necessary changes as needed.
By the end of the first six months :
- Take ownership of assigned projects from design to construction.
- Be capable of taking on at least 6 any size of project consisting of retail and residential. Including all aspects of managing a project : Cx process, documentation, observation, client discussions, etc.
- Lead construction kick-off meetings.
- Draft final functional performance tests.
- Begin thinking about additional services to bring into VCA Green.
By the end of the first 12 months : Established fully functioning Commissioning division.
- Review Owner’s Project Requirements, Basis of Design and completes the Commissioning Plan.
- Provide design peer review of MEP plans.
- Complete updating and streamlining of Cx process documents.
- Take complete responsibility for all assigned projects.
- Be capable of taking the lead to host a design kick-off meeting.
Future goals : Proactively learn about industry specific educational materials or presentations. The end result to keep in mind is becoming a content expert within 1-3 years, capable of putting together an entire program for presentation.
Be willing to learn and become certified in Lighting ATT, Mechanical ATT, HERS, LEED, NGBS, and GPR final inspections.
Requirements :
- Preferred : Engineering degree or related field experience and disciplines. (BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar or one or more of the following : CCP, CxA, QCxP, CBCP, MAT, CPMP, and at least 5 to 10 years of experience.)
- 10 to 15 years of professional working experience, preferably in construction, commissioning, or operations in buildings, sustainability, energy, project management, or other related fields;
- LEED GA; (or agreement to have specific licenses (TBD) within 6 months)
- Strong time and project management skills;
- Strong communication and writing skills, ultimately used for editing and report generation capabilities;
- Ability to track projects and tasks to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of high-quality deliverables and client expectations;
- Proficient computer abilities, particularly Microsoft Office Suite
- Travel is expected throughout California. Driving ability and licensure is required.
