The Nurse Practitioner - R job demonstrates a high level of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of the complex responses of individuals, families, or communities to actual or potential health problems, prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. This role assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
The Nurse Practitioner - R job continues to perform many of the same interventions used in basic nursing practice. The difference in this practice relates to a greater depth and breadth of knowledge, a greater degree of synthesis of data, and complexity of skills and intervention. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible License to practice as NP in the specialty area in the Commonwealth of Virginia Prescriptive Authority when required
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Current RN Licensure in Virginia Credentialing in accordance with medical staff by-laws for specific job title
Prescriptive authority when required
Experience REQUIRED:
Minimum of two (2) years experience as a RN
Experience PREFERRED:
Academic health care experience Two (2) years within the specialty practice area
Advanced Practice Nursing Role or Clinical Leadership Role experience
Education/training REQUIRED:
Masters Degree in Nursing from an accredited program specific to area of practice

The Advanced Practice Provider – Rotating, provides medical and/or surgical care and treatment to the Acute Care Surgical Services (Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, Critical Care) patient population under the supervision of physician(s).
The Advanced Practice Provider - R provides diagnostic, therapeutic and/or preventive healthcare service, as delegated by a physician. The Advanced Practice Provider may perform any or all of the following: histories and physicals; order and interpret tests; make preliminary diagnosis; treat injuries/illness; assist with surgical procedures; counsel patient and/or prescribe medication and those invasive procedures defined by the Virginia Board of Medicine.
The Advanced Practice Provider - R works collaboratively with the medical team to deliver organized, timely, cost effective and quality patient care. This position may supervise support staff.
The Advanced Practice Provider will provide patient care under defined departmental and state approved scope of practice and under the supervision of an attending physician(s). The level of supervision will be commensurate with the complexity of the patient’s condition and as approved by the Board of Medicine. These protocols are acknowledged by the Advanced Practice Provider and all of the supervising physicians.

Successful completion of national certification exam

Three (3) years of previous clinical experience serving the Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, Critical Care, and Elective Surgery patient population
Previous experience in an academic healthcare system
Education/training REQUIRED:
Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program
