Job Purpose:
Directly supervise and coordinate activities of transportation and vehicle operators.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage on a day-to-day basis the transportation of goods and supplies using existing procedures; review and recommend improvements to procedures to ensure on-time delivery of goods and supplies.
- Provide operational support by performing a range of route activities using existing systems and protocols.
- Gather and summarize data and prepare documents and reports using a variety of computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
- Supervise and lead a team performing routine work.
- Design own monthly schedule and, if necessary, assign work to others in order to speed up office workflow and ensure high-priority tasks get done.
- Maintain a culture of safety that follows the organization's Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) policies to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to oneself and others in the workplace. Instruct the team in safe working methods and escalate serious issues as appropriate.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards. Obtain authorization from a supervisor or manager for any exceptions from mandatory procedure.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Work Experience:
- 5 years of successful supervisory/management experience required, preferably in warehouse operations.
- Experience and thorough understanding of warehouse, delivery, traffic operations and systems within a distribution setting, as well as government regulations (e.g., DOT, OSHA, HazMat, etc.).
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills including but not limited to performance management (employee evaluations, discipline, corrective action, coaching) and conducting interviews.
- Experience of supervising and directing people and other resources to achieve specific end results within limited timeframes.
- Experienced practitioner able to work unsupervised.
- Ability to develop proficiency with company computer system is essential.
- Ability to motivate and develop direct reports.
- Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
- Strong planning, organization, and customer relations' skills are required.
Education:
- Associate's/Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Responsibilities include regularly working in a non-climate controlled warehouse where exposure to cold, heat, damp or humid conditions may occur.
- Will work around moving machinery such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Noise level in the work environment is typically loud.
- Exposure to dust, mechanical hazards, moving objects, operating vehicles and shift work is required.
Physical Requirements:
Requirements are representative of those needed to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- A significant portion of the incumbent's job responsibilities will require a significant amount of walking, the ability to operate different material handling equipment and the ability to use various computer systems and software.
- The incumbent may assist in lifting/moving 50 pounds of warehouse product.
