LINE WORKER

Summary

Constructs, installs, removes, splices, and rehabilitates all types of network facilities. Performs work in conjunction with the handling and transport of materials, supplies, and equipment. May be required to perform drop rehabilitation and reconcentration, including network interface devices and associated wiring, tree trimming and spray work. Operates most types of cable construction equipment and associated test equipment.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: 

A.  PERSONAL CONTACTS:
• Interdepartmental - Frequent
• Intradepartmental - Frequent
• Customer - Frequent
• Vendor – Frequent

B.  DRIVING: Class "A" CDL license.

C.  TRAVEL RELATED: Required for job site reporting as necessary.

D. Job requires
• Distinguishing colors in wire and cable;
• Handling 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally;
• Pushing, pulling, lifting, and bending;
• Job requires manual dexterity in the performance of tasks;
• Working at heights;
• Handling ladders;
• Climbing poles.

E.  Use backhoe, cable plow, megger, ohmmeter, pusher, 3M modular splicing unit, locator, DAVAR test equipment, line truck, semi-truck, trailers, CSU and/or aerial devices, various hand/power, splicing and testing tools, shovel and rake.

F.  May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.

Qualifications

A. Tests– Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy.

B. Must possess Class "A" CDL drivers license;

C. Climbing skills;

D. Experience in reading and understanding CAF (Customer Access Facility) work orders;

E. Basic AC/DC Theory;

F. Good safety record;

G. Skill in reading and writing English;

H. Experience in driving vehicle with manual gear shift;

I. Job requires working aloft and in close spaces;

J. Strong work ethics, integrity and positive outlook.

K. Job requires distinguishing color codes and splicing cable;

L. Knowledge in cable and safety test equipment.

M. Knowledge in cable construction equipment.

N. Knowledge in first aid and CPR.
