Title: Project Cost Accountant
Summary:
As a Project Cost Accountant, you will play a crucial role in the financial management of assigned projects. Your responsibilities will include monitoring, analyzing, preparing complex Excel reports and reporting on project costs to ensure that they align with budgetary constraints and organizational goals. You will collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to provide financial insights, identify cost-saving opportunities, and contribute to the overall success of projects. Your attention to detail, financial expertise, and analytical skills will be essential in maintaining accurate project cost records and supporting the organization's financial health. Additionally, and individual must have the ability to work in a team oriented fast-paced environment and flexibility to work overtime during peak periods
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Tracks information on upgrade projects and report that information to management
- Prepare assets, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
- Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
- Summarize current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
- Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
- Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
- Guides accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions.
- Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
- Secures financial information by completing data base backups.
- Maintain financial security by following internal controls.
- Prepare payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements.
- Answer accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
- Comply with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
- Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
- Maintain customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- Proven experience as a Cost Accountant or similar role preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA) is a plus
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant accounting work experience.
- Advanced understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Must be highly detail oriented and organized.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
- Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction to accomplish objectives.
- Proficiency with email and Microsoft Office application; especially Excel (advanced functionality).
- Ability to operate DBM utilizing SQL and learning advanced functionality for Management Report Writer Software.
Computer Skills:
- Microsoft Dynamics GP or other large Enterprise Resource Planning experience required.
- Proficient use of MS Office applications
- Ability to effectively navigate financial software, general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, order processing, fixed assets.
