The Village of Milan is currently seeking to hire a Code Enforcement Officer.
Job Summary:
The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing municipal codes, ordinances, and regulations to ensure compliance with local laws. This individual serves as a liaison between the community and local government, addressing issues related to property maintenance, zoning violations, public nuisances, and other code violations.
Responsibilities:
Enforce municipal codes, ordinances, and regulations related to property maintenance, zoning, signage, noise, sanitation, and other areas.
Conduct routine inspections of properties to identify code violations and initiate appropriate enforcement actions.
Investigate complaints from the public regarding code violations and take necessary steps to address them.
Issue warnings, citations, and notices of violation to property owners or occupants as required by local regulations.
Coordinate with other Village departments, agencies, and stakeholders to address complex code enforcement issues.
Provide information and guidance to property owners, tenants, and the public regarding code requirements and compliance procedures.
Maintain accurate records of code enforcement activities, including inspection reports, violation notices, and correspondence.
Attend hearings, meetings, and court proceedings as necessary to testify regarding code violations and enforcement actions.
Oversee, organize, and participate in Planning and Zoning meetings and create agendas.
Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to address public safety concerns and ensure compliance with applicable laws.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and enforcement techniques.
AND OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED OR REQUIRED.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of municipal codes, ordinances, and regulations, as well as legal principles related to code enforcement is preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
Ability to exercise good judgment, tact, and discretion when handling sensitive or contentious situations.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Physical ability to conduct inspections, patrols, and other duties requiring mobility and stamina.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
Previous experience in code enforcement, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred.
Salary and Benefits:
$17.00 - $20.00 DOE
