Environmental Health Director

The Vinton County Health Department

is currently seeking a

Full Time Environmental Health (EH) Director

Job Responsibilities:

• Administers and directs the environmental health division

• Provides supervision, consultation, training, and technical advice to subordinate personnel

• Assigns tasks to enforce and ensure compliance with state and local public health laws and regulations

• Develops, implements, coordinates, an evaluates programs as needed

• Hears and resolves employee grievances; recommends discipline

• Monitors environmental health laws and collects, organizes, and analyzes environmental health information to aid in development of environmental health policies, ordinances, regulations, and programs

• Prepares budget proposals and monitors appropriations

• Prepares and implements grant applications and programs

• Conducts hearings relating to non-compliance

• Provides consultation and assistance to the Health Department’s Health Commissioner and other officials and makes recommendations for environmental health ordinances, regulations, policies, and procedures to the Health Department’s Health Commissioner

• Provides technical and administrative assistance regarding environmental health in the county to public officials, civic organizations, etc. to promote public awareness of environmental health

• Performs public speaking before groups and other agencies to provide information

• Fulfills the role of Public Information Officer alongside the Health Department’s Health Commissioner, education the public through a variety of mediums

• Attends seminars, training, and conferences to enhance knowledge of methods and techniques utilized in environmental and public health

• Assist with emergency response planning and updating the plan

• Monitors weekly conference calls, correspondence and emails

• Assist with regional epidemiology team as well as the local outbreak team

• Participates in meetings, trainings, and all emergency exercises

• Monitors and maintains MARCS, OPHCS, OPHAN, PIO representing public on the LEPC

• Attends staff meetings and training as required

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships

• Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions

• Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance

• Maintains required licenses and/or certificates

• Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties

• Performs other related duties as assigne

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must possess Ohio Sanitarian registration certificate

• Must possess valid Ohio vehicle operator’s license

• Demonstrated management experience

• 60 months training or experience in environmental health or 12 months experience as Public Health Sanitarian, or in a comparable position

• Ability to budget funds
