Responsibilities:
- Performs day-to-day management and supervision of Environmental Health Services office; develops and implements routine procedures for clerical function of the office and workflow of the unit
- Issues environmental health licenses and permits; assists in completion of forms; reviews and verifies documentation for consistency, records information into database; maintains organization and security of data; mail applications for licensure; creates databases as necessary; prepare draft correspondence as it pertain to department programs and accreditation.
-Prepares periodic activity and statistical reports regarding inspections, water testing and other sanitation activities, etc.; maintains permit and license files; maintains various logs; prepares reports for state and local agencies; cooperates with all survey and audit requirements; produces timelines for department projects; review documentation submitted for accreditation for completeness and respond accordingly; assist the Environmental Health Director in accreditation activities.
-Independently performs clerical duties for environmental health division (e.g., receives telephone calls, schedules appointments, and directs to proper authority; provides general information to public; maintains filing system, types correspondence, reports, records, inspection forms, and related documents; prepares invoices; receives and receipts in payments; mails preliminary applications, etc.); handles and resolves minor complaints and assists public with processing application and complaints; maintains confidential files; organizes community events; uses Excel, Access, EHDSI, Word, Publisher, Google Drive, HDIS, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
-Independently perform routine inspections/investigations for public health programs, compile site information, investigate animal incidents and provide notification of quarantine if necessary, maintain daily activity log, time schedule, project planning, document inspection/investigation records within the appropriate system or by the appropriate method and make recommendations for corrections, if necessary, engage in training activities to develop knowledge and skill as needed, and continue to stay abreast to new and upcoming environmental health law and rule changes.
-Attend staff meetings and training as required.
-Develop and maintain effective working relationships and demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
-Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
-Must be able to work with people of all ages and backgrounds. Must be sensitive to rural and Appalachian culture and values. Must show a kind and professional demeanor and attitude. Must be patient and compassionate with people and issues encountered in challenging socio-economic environments.
Experience:
- Previous experience in environmental compliance or related field preferred
- Knowledge of EPA regulations and standards
- Familiarity with OSHA requirements for occupational health and safety
- Strong understanding of EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) principles
- Ability to fabricate solutions for environmental challenges
- Proficient in report writing and data analysis
