What are the responsibilities and job description for the Materials Planner position at Virginia Distillery Company?
The Virginia Distillery Co., a single malt whisky distillery located in the heart of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, is seeking an Operations Planner. This position reports directly to the Supply Chain Solutions Manager and will strive to achieve our relentless pursuit of operations excellence.

Key Responsibilities
- Primarily supporting key Supply Chain functions including but not limited to: production and bottling schedule planning to support sales demand, on-time procurement of materials, and finished goods supply logistics
- Working with Supply Chain Solutions Manager to drive Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes to align all the plans for the business (sales, marketing, development, manufacturing, sourcing, and financial) into one integrated set of plans.
- Develop, maintain, and drive the execution of highly visible supply chain dashboards to track operations and communicate status to the entire team.
- Identify, evaluate, plan, and support execution of continuous improvement projects to increase the team's effectiveness in meeting business goals including safety, revenue, quality, and productivity goals
- Manage inventory procurement for all raw materials, foster existing vendor relationships and support the development of new vendors.
- Responsible for raw material inventory readiness, availability, and visibility.
- Interacting with vendors and our internal brand and sales teams, encompassing critical component planning, allocation direction, supply flexibility modeling, and materials liability management.
- Support project timelines and resources and ensure risk mitigation actions are identified and in place to ensure successful product launches
- Analyze demand, inventory, and program usage to develop and manage weekly and quarterly supply plans. Results should meet Virginia Distillery Co.’s growth plans, while achieving aggressive time-to-market goals and minimizing finished goods and raw material liability.
- Collaborate with operations management team to administer, create, and maintain policies and procedures for effective labor, equipment, and resource management.
- Regular and predictable attendance at the work site, this role requires regular presence at the distillery production facilities
- This role may occasionally require lifting up to 40 lbs. and the use a forklift.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in supply chain, project management, production planning, production control, inventory management, or production/manufacturing operations.
- Self-motivated and operates with a great sense of urgency and ability to drive progress under immense degree of ambiguity and be comfortable working in an unstructured environment.
- Superior planning, organization, administration, and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of quality systems, finance, capital planning, and forecasting, economic justification analysis, statistical process control, and manufacturing management systems
- High levels of analytical skills, ability to use data to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities and accurately assess financial impacts
- Ability to work well in a team-based highly collaborative environment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, precision, and timeliness
- Ability to prioritize and perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism
- Open-minded, positive thinker with an ability to work independently on multiple tasks and projects with various stakeholders
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills including advanced Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business with 1-3 years of relevant experience in supply chain or manufacturing.
- Prior consumer packaged goods manufacturing, logistics or supply chain experience
- Desire to build a manufacturing career at the heart of business operations
Compensation
The role will be serving our production operations in Lovingston, VA but may require light travel. Being on-site full time in Lovingston, VA is required for this role
