Role of Pharmacy Technician is to manage the technical duties within a pharmacy and provide support under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensuring optimal pharmaceutical care to the patients within the health system.
This position is a non-traditional pharmacy role that optimizes the non-dispensing skills of the Ambulatory Pharmacy Technician. Technicians in this role work under clinic-based pharmacists to support indirect patient care. Key skills needed to be successful in this role include:
- Excellent customer service via telephone
- Professional communication in the patient electronic health record
- Strong grasp of medical terminology
- High working knowledge of medications, drug names and therapeutic indications
- Must have excellent computing skills including typing, standard PC and keyboarding shortcuts, and ability to navigate Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, etc
- Well organized and able to prioritize daily tasks
Individuals considering this role must be able to function well in a high pressure, high volume environment with no face to face patient interaction.

Qualifications:
A Washington State Pharmacy Technician License and completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program is required for this position. National Certification (CPhT) is also required or must become nationally certified within 90 days of hire. A thorough knowledge of legend drugs and medical terminology; excellent computer knowledge and skills; exceptional customer service (ability to communicate clearly with patients and adept at conflict resolution); strong communication and interpersonal skills; comprehensive knowledge of third-party insurance plans and claims processing; the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; strong organizational skills. Must have general knowledge of the local pharmacy benefit managers in the local region. Operation knowledge of formulary, tiering, and copay concepts.
One year related work experience preferred.
