Job Description

The University Libraries at Virginia Tech seeks a Human Resources (HR) Specialist, who reports to the Administrative Director and Human Resources Manager. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing support for searches and hiring to include the processing of travel for candidates
  • Managing Human Resource Support such as supporting performance evaluation process, PageUp support for position changes, transaction changes for Payroll, leave reports, and on-boarding.
  • Managing visa and immigration cases in consultation with the International Support Services (ISS) Office
  • Backup support for student/wage payroll for the University Libraries
  • Managing and maintaining confidential records and information
  • Performing administrative duties as needed

The ideal candidate is committed of participating in a collaborative office environment and possesses the ability to manage day-to-day personnel actions with little supervision. Communicate clearly, effectively and empathetically. Work with others to accomplish common goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with human resources transactions in a timely manner and/or working with student/wage transactions
  • Experience interpreting human resources and/or payroll policies and procedures within a university or business
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Highly organized and detailed with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and work collaboratively as a team member
  • Experience using a computer to include programs and software such as Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Experience with on-line application systems and on-line payroll systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a university setting
  • Experience working in an academic library
  • Knowledge of university Human Resources and Payroll policies
  • Experience with computer application systems such as PageUp, Banner, TimeClock Plus and Chrome River

$44,000 - $46,000 based on education and qualifications

  • Work schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm or as arranged
