Viterbo University invites applications for a Second Shift Custodian who is an eager and service-focused individual to work independently and with a team to insure the standards of cleanliness on the campus. The Custodian position keeps the premises of campus buildings, which includes residence halls, apartments, theatres, academic, and athletic buildings in clean and orderly condition. This is a full-time position eligible for all employee benefits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Included the following but not limited to cleaning classrooms, offices, hallways, lobbies, lounges, theatres, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, gym, locker rooms, and other work areas.
- Sweep, scrub, wash, and burnish floors.
- Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas, and upholstered furniture.
- Dust office furniture and equipment.
- Wash walls, ceiling, and woodwork, including windows, door panels, and sills.
- Empty wastebaskets.
- Transport trash and waste to disposal area.
- Replenish bathroom supplies as needed.
- Transport office, dorm and classroom furniture as needed.
- Unlock and secure specified doors.
- Responsible for minor maintenance activities.
- To be able to work independently and with a team.
- Manage hours according to building activities which may include weekends.
- Maintain procedures which will ensure standards of cleanliness.
- Have good personal hygiene and maintain a neat, well-groomed professional appearance.
- Other duties as assigned by Custodial Services Supervisor.
General Requirements/Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. - High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three months experience and/or training.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers, supervisor and other employees of the organization.
- General computer skills are required with the ability to read and send emails.
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with l0s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement, volume and distance.
- Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and/or oral instructions. Ability to deal with issues/problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Ability to manage hours according to building activities which may include weekends.
- Ability to maintain procedures which will ensure standards of cleanliness.
- Have good personal hygiene and maintain a neat, well-groomed professional appearance.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The custodian is required to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The custodian must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. University specified attire and equipment are required. Uniform tops will be provided and must be worn throughout the school year. The employee is expected to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
