What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hospital Food Service position at VOCA?

Duties:

Assist in performing all duties related to retail food and beverage items for visitors, hospital staff and patients. Follows standardized recipes and production sheets; assures that food served is in accordance to established standards and procedures. Maintains quality standards in presentation and portion control. Other duties as assigned.

Organizes and prepares for the day's cooking/serving activities; obtains appropriate supplies to complete day's menu/duties. Sets up the cold deli case, placing appropriate items in designated location. Sets up the cashier, bakery, steam table, coffee and snack stations according to designated par levels. Fills all self-serve coolers. Receives and stocks daily deliveries. Fills prep cooler and freezers according to par levels.
Portions and serves hot and cold foods for visitors, patients and hospital staff. Uses proper utensils, containers and equipment. Weighs and measures portion sizes accurately. Follows standardized recipes at all times. Does jobs or tasks right the first time. Maintains service consistency, providing it in the same manner through the same process at all times.
Prepares and sets up for next day's production needs. Reviews/inspects current prepared items daily for items that will/can be used the next day. Accurately processes inventory for new product delivery; prepares and completes order process for all vendors on a weekly basis. Cleans and restocks assigned work areas; maintains a clean & sanitary work area. Personally makes sure that his/her work area is safe. Reports any unsafe equipment or working condition in the department/hospital leader on duty. Prepares after hours meals for In-Room Dining (IND).
Maintains records of temperatures for prepared food, coolers, freezers and other holding equipment. Temperature log to be completed every 4 hours, no less than 2 times per shift. Temperatures falling between 41 and 135 degrees are to be reported directly to the leader on duty, and to his/her coworkers. Cooks food to appropriate temperature. Practices proper food handling procedures. Tests prepared foods for acceptability by tasting and checking for quality; taste tests prior to services and adjusts seasonings accordingly. Ensures foods meet presentation and quality standards.
Covers, labels, dates and stores prepared and leftover food properly. Utilizes prepared products prior to their expiration date; minimizes daily waste. Checks all storage areas daily for expired product; properly disposes expired product. Checks all customer self serve areas daily for expired product; properly disposes expired product. Keeps food to be cooked in coolers until ready for cooking. Does not store products on counter at room temperature. Batch cooks all products. Adjusts cooking levels for peak and non-peak times.

Operates all food service equipment safely following correct procedures. Reports all equipment issues directly to the leader on duty. Follows equipment cleaning schedule. Uses chemicals for cleaning according to proper usage/dilution to ensure financial and sanitation controls are met. Identifies and corrects any unsanitary, disorganized work area. Follows established safety rules and knows how to read Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and knows their location in the Food Service Department.
Skills:
Follows established guidelines for safe cash handling. Operates cash register and charges appropriately for all items purchased. Prepares daily deposit; ensures that the deposit is placed into the safe. Ensure that all position-specific duties are met each day to enable the team to work effectively and efficiently. Works cooperatively to ensure that special functions are produced, delivered, supported (additional needs met), and cleaned up in a timely manner. Job Standard 9: Cleans and sanitizes work areas. Thoroughly rinses, soaks and stacks pots, pans, and utensils for dishwashing removing labels and wraps. Cleans and sanitizes knives before storage. Follows assigned cleaning list and follows proper recycling procedures. Maintains knowledge of and adherence to local Health Department policies. Job Standard 10: Handles multiple tasks. Manages work time effectively/efficiently to meet productivity goals. Adjusts workday to support department's scheduled needs. Clearly communicates with coworkers for the benefit of overall good patient care and teamwork.

Customer service experience in a commercial or institutional food service facility is required.
