POSITION SUMMARY
The Cook provides essential support in the kitchen by preparing lunch meals for participants and sorting donated food items for distribution to program locations. The Cook problem-solves and makes recommendations related to ordering food and managing workflow to ensure the preparation of adequate, nutritious, and appealing meals. Collaboration with the Administrative Support Specialist on donated food items and program needs is also a key responsibility. This position contributes to a positive and supportive environment, aligning with the organization’s mission and values.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS STATEMENT(S)
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Assist in planning weekly menus.
- Prepare adequate and nutritious lunch meals for the CHOICES program Monday through Friday.
- Demonstrate safe food handling practices.
- Ensure proper and safe storage of all food items.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and pantry area to include proper sanitation of all kitchen and pantry equipment and areas.
- Demonstrate professionalism in conversations and actions.
- Must meet all training requirements including ServSafe certification.
- Communicate food safety or program compliance concerns to the program directors or coordinators.
- Serve as a contact between Bread Break and Volunteers of America, Dakotas and manage donations and related documentation.
- Communicate food and kitchen item purchase needs.
Responsible for other duties as assigned.
POSITIONS QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Minimum of High School diploma.
Experience: Must have six months experience with institution meal preparations and have the ability to work well with other professionals and adults with disabilities. Must fully understand nutrition standards and regulations.
Skills: Excellent communication skills
Certifications & Licenses: Valid driver’s license and possess reliable transportation
Other Requirements: Must be able to work flexible hours
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
A. Ability to Stand, Walk, sit, manually manipulate, reach outward and above shoulders, speak, climb, crawl, squat, kneel, and bend on a daily basis
B. Capability to Lift, carry, push or pull up to 25 lbs on a daily basis
