Transportation Assistant - Driver

Summary/Objective

The Transportation Assistant transports patients to appointments outside the Volunteers of America Northern Rockies’ facility. The Transportation Assistant assists the transportation team with client rides to and from services offered at Volunteers of America as approved by the client’s primary team and works with the transportation team to cover shifts.

Essential Functions:

  • Transport clients to appointments and meetings in the community, in Laramie County, and some out-of-town transport across Wyoming.
  • Transports clients to and from designated locations and programs depending upon clinical necessity.
  • Reinforce transportation rules with clients.
  • Maintains agency fleet, including documenting and submitting maintenance and transportation logs.
  • Maintains exterior and interior of vans and agency vehicles.
  • Maintains oil changes and other minor maintenance tasks as assigned by Transportation Manager
  • Follows confidentiality policies.
  • Reports all unusual behaviors to therapists/supervisors.
  • Completes and files incident reports, as appropriate.
  • Utilizes and maintains defensive driving skills.

  • Proficient with standard office equipment.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a transport vehicle and a Therapeutic/Administrative Environment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic, caustic chemicals as a biohazard, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time or part-time status dependent on the position hired for. Days and hours of work vary according to the assigned shift.

Travel:

Significant local travel is expected for this position when performing transportation duties.

Required Education, Experience, or Eligibility Qualifications:

  • High School education or equivalent
  • Proficient with various computer software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Suite and database programs.
  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions that would prevent the performance of transportation responsibilities.
  • No DUI/DWI pending charges or convictions within five years before the hire date.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Previous Human Services training and experience.
  • Previous commercial driving experience.
