Summary:
Develops, designs, implements, manages and maintains equipment used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery and processes. Ensures that these systems and processes operate effectively, efficiently and safely for enhancement or equipment procurement in support of Lean organizational objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides technical knowledge/support to the operation including basic and advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions, installation and commissioning of new and existent equipment with 24-7 support availability.
- Support in specific control disciplines such as advanced process control (APC), distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA). Manages electronic format data, process parameters, hardware and systems. Maintains Drives, Servos and Encoders insuring that all HMI and PLC programs are kept current and backed up on a regular basis
- Maintains, tunes and modifies existing control systems following the company’s change control processes. Develops process control requirements for new or modified systems and participates in design review meetings with external vendors.
- Works collaboratively with other departments and other engineers to identify control systems’ needs, opportunities, troubleshooting problems, optimizing equipment operations and preventing failures.
- Manages full-scale projects or project milestones. Delivers new project proposals to stakeholders and leadership with business value and cost analysis to gain support and buy-in for potential implementation.
- Establishes and updates risk mitigation plans to avoid critical failures associated with parts reliability, spare parts shortages, electronic file issues, support software availability, complex recovery methods and schematics inaccuracy in order to resolve or work around various controls or systems related failures in a timely fashion.
- Transfers knowledge to support teams by means of training and documentation to improve recoveries. Helps to develop testing and interview material for Maintenance. Participates in hiring process for Engineers and Maintenance personnel.
- Researches and keeps abreast of new technologies. Acquires and shares knowledge associated with technological methods, practices, hardware and software that may be applicable to the operation to include participating in various continuous improvement initiatives.
- Accomplishes duties using safe work practices and equipment while being responsible for reporting all injuries and observed unsafe practices. Coaches fellow employees on safe work practices as appropriate and contributes to the overall success of the company’s safety program.
- Performs related work and additional duties as needed or required.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required. Five years’ experience required in these specific activities (Instrumentation Controls, PLC programming, advanced electrical troubleshooting and new equipment design) in a manufacturing environment.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Manufacturing Experience
- Understanding of electrical and electronic systems
- Motion controls troubleshooting experience
- Data acquisition and analysis
- Testing methodologies
- AutoCAD or equivalent
- PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Experience with SCADA systems
- Electrical Controls Troubleshooting skills
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience with WinCC application
- Knowledge of Allen Bradley and/or Siemens S7 experience
- High-speed manufacturing, preferably printing experience.
- Experience in low-voltage system design
- Motion Control experience
- Mechanical troubleshooting
- Database knowledge
- Programming skills in VB, C , or related skills
