Who we are:

Originally founded in 1948 as Vandersteen and Sons, VSI’s goal was to provide lock and key services to the locksmith industry. In 1989, our services evolved to assembly of automotive and truck locksets for the domestic OEM production environment. By the end of 2004, VSI became the main supplier of locksets for the North American Heavy Truck market. In 2011, Vehicle Security Innovators acquired Pop & Lock, the industry leader in aftermarket tailgate lock solutions for pick up trucks. Then in 2013, Freight Defense was started, whose mission is to protect medium and heavy duty fleets and owner-operators with innovative security products designed to minimize theft, improve safety and keep freight moving.

VSI, Inc. is looking to add an experienced Purchasing Manager who will be providing overall leadership of the purchasing function and professional business relationships with suppliers. Responsible for inventory value of all component parts and supplies used in production, including the purchasing of parts and supplies, either directly or by directing the work of subordinates. This person will also be responsible for the procurement of products that are recognized as best in class, are highly innovative and deliver competitive margins and ensure that we meet/exceed customer expectations for timely delivery of quality product utilizing good general business practices

Responsibilities:

  • Purchases all component parts and production supplies, either directly or by the work of subordinates, using customer requirements and forecast information
  • Responsible for the overall vendor/supplier accountability and purchased product quality including qualifying and monitoring vendor performance
  • Establish vendor management practices that ensure high-quality vendor and product on-boarding, inventory levels that meet demand, oversight of fulfillment performance and remediation of non-compliance
  • Purchase needed materials at most cost efficient manner available and meets regularly with the Managers and VP of Operations to ensure all materials are on hand to meet production requirements
  • Oversees or secures product compliance (COA’s or COC’s) and integrity of inventory part numbers and descriptions
  • Oversees or prepares purchase orders, debit memos, quote analysis, communications and other reports and documents as required
  • Maximizes inventory turns while achieving targeted cost reductions
  • Collaborates with Managers and VP of Operations to investigate all damaged raw materials or finished goods and slow or obsolete inventory to determine disposition
  • Model the VSI FRAME of Mind

Job Requirements:

  • 2-year degree or equivalent experience in an appropriate field is a plus.
  • 5 years of manufacturing, supply chain, inventory or procurement experience
  • Logistics experience is preferred but not required
  • Excellent presentation and proven negotiating skills as well as relationship management experience
  • Analyzing procurement methods relative to current and future business needs
  • Strong organization & time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Managing situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment.
  • Preparing and analyzing bids and specifications.
  • Effectively resolving complex contract, procurement and inventory issues within tight deadlines.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with department heads, managers, supervisors, employees, vendors, suppliers, contractors, and external public and private agencies.
