What You'll Do:
We are hiring an Accounts Receivable Manager in Birmingham, AL! The AR Manager is responsible for leading the AR Services department and ensuring the successful delivery of accurate, efficient, and timely service to the organization and to our customers. The AR Manager will set department goals, determine best practices, design and implement process improvements, hire and train supervisors and staff, and develop and coach personnel.
Essential Functions:
- Leadership of AR Services department.
- Foster teamwork, create a productive work environment, and motivate employees to reach their highest potential.
- Determine appropriate procedures and work assignments to maximize efficiency, minimize errors, and ensure accurate and timely transaction processing and excellent customer service.
- Set goals for the department and measure performance against those goals.
- Engage with leaders of internal customer groups, negotiate services to be provided and how they will be provided, and resolve issues in a productive way that fits the "One Vulcan" idea.
- Manage financial aspects of the department including budgeting, salary planning, and monthly review of actual spend.
Staff Development:
- Develop and/or modify key responsibility areas and performance standards, assess performance, and provide feedback to personnel on a regular basis in a constructive manner.
- Provide work assignments and training opportunities that encourage growth and development, and increase skill level of the department as a whole.
- Provide direction, guidance, coaching and supervision of AR Supervisors, and help them attain their goals.
Accounting:
- Thoroughly understand how AR transactions move through the sub ledgers and the related system journal entries (especially concerning Sales and Cash system journals). Determine source of and solution to any problems.
- Effectively communicate with division customers for all issues related to system journal entries, account reconciliations, and month end close processes.
- Ensure appropriate controls are operating for AR transactions and make changes when process or system changes require.
Administration of AR System:
- Act as Functional owner of systems related to Accounts Receivable and understand implications of changes, upgrades, and other system issues impacting AR.
- Identify and propose system changes necessary for process improvements or bug fixes. Test and implement changes that have appropriate cost/benefit. If delegating to supervisors and staff for development, provide appropriate review.
- Act as an expert resource for the user community for questions related to transactions owned by AR Services.
Special Assignments:
- Responsible for the completion of special assignments.
Skills You'll Need:
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or other business related curriculum required.
Experience:
- 7 years' experience in an accounting, finance, or a business process position.
- 5 years' experience as a manager or supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Industry knowledge, professional certification, ERP experience highly preferred.
- Proven leadership ability.
- Strong negotiation and problem resolution skills.
- Effective communicator.
- Handle multiple tasks and deadlines and set appropriate priorities.
- Sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Strong computer skills.
