Pay rate starting at $28.50/hr $1,000 sign on bonus paid out after the completion of 90 days.


Position Summary: This position is responsible for supervising all aspects of WM Barr’s Production Maintenance organization to achieve cost, effectiveness, and efficiency goals. Responsibilities include supervising the work activities of skilled and unskilled employees as well as Supervisors. This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of manufacturing equipment, lines, tools and machinery and will also ensure required tools, equipment and parts are available and in good working order. Will provide Manufacturing with support to meet customer and production requirements; will provide Engineering with project support. Will ensure that support equipment is in good working order. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Engineering and Maintenance and includes responsibility for the work performance of other employees.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manages Production Maintenance Department through Maintenance Team Leads.
  • Develops and manages department budgets, ensures that the department stays within budgeted guidelines, analyzes, and explains variances; develops and implements solutions to reduce costs.
  • Develops, implements, and manages the TPM program to ensure all maintenance and preventive maintenance activities are thorough and completed in a timely and professional manner; maintains all records of preventive maintenance; identifies solutions to improve equipment uptime and eliminate repetitive problems; continues to build and foster the Maintenance Excellence Program methodology.
  • Develops programs and processes to ensure all tools and equipment are well maintained and to provide continuous capabilities to meet production requirements and customer specifications.
  • Provides leadership to his/her organization and manages performance through effective communications and development of employees; practices effective performance management by establishing measurable objectives for all employees; rewards excellence and deals quickly with performance issues. Ensures that all mechanics/technicians are properly trained and capable of doing their jobs.
  • Develops capital projects to improve plant performance, replace obsolete equipment and/or reduce costs; installs new production lines and manages projects for new equipment; maintains existing lines; responds promptly to, and completes, all production line maintenance requests.
  • Work Management, Breakdown Elimination, CMMS, FMEA knowledge and demonstrated strengths are a required facet of a Maintenance management.
  • Recommends methods, materials and layouts for improvements and cost reductions based on manufacturing needs and capabilities. Identifies and implements continuous improvement ideas.
  • Ensures department goals are met, including project, cost, quality, and safety objectives.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with vendors to obtain quotes and purchase.

  • Interfaces with Operations, Logistics, and other departments to communicate requirements for equipment downtime, repairs, and changeovers.
  • Creates and maintains an environment that promotes employee engagement, empowerment, teamwork and focus on results.
  • Manage employee performance by engaging employees in the objective setting process. Provide on-going coaching and performance feedback. Deliver employee discipline/counseling as needed and apply policies consistently throughout the team.
  • Continuously coach and develop employees. Seek opportunities for cross-training to build employee skills. Develops flexible work force that can respond quickly to changing requirements.
  • Develops effective working relationships with other departments to ensure ongoing communications in all areas of business.
  • Demonstrating Barr’s Values; Support the recruiting process to select employees that possess Our Values; Work to instill the Values in existing Barr employees.
  • Ensures all performance metrics are met; develops immediate plans to address shortcomings.
  • Supervises employee workload and staff utilization. Reviews time and attendance records; recommends personnel changes and ensures staffing is appropriate to meet daily needs.
  • Develops and prepares reports and communicates department performance results, and other company activities to all team members.
  • Ensures department spending is in line with budget requirements and productivity / efficiency targets are met.
  • Responds to and investigates issues raised regarding customer complaints.
  • Maintains safe working conditions and practices in the department in accordance with all Barr policy guidelines as well as local, state and federal laws.
  • Works closely with Manufacturing and Distribution to improve equipment performance.
  • Performs all work in accordance with Barr’s safety and quality guidelines and procedures; demonstrates clear understanding of these safety and quality objectives.
  • Performs other work and special projects as directed by Director of Engineering and Maintenance.
  • Provides monthly and other reports as requested.

Qualifications/Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • 5 or more years of leading production maintenance organization delivering strong results.

  • Must have demonstrated skills in Leadership & Technical skills in leading & transforming the operation.
  • Leadership and demonstrated ability to develop and transform the organization. Additionally, TPM and Maintenance Excellence programs.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • knowledge of best sourcing practices; demonstrated negotiation skills; excellent organization and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent problem-solving skills, ability to organize and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • ability to analyze situations and respond in a timely manner.
  • ability to participate in multi-functional teams.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the Barr organization.

  • Well versed with CMMS structure.
  • Familiar with Autocad/solid works systems.

The position may require travel but on an infrequent basis as needed by the business.
