WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of polycrystalline hyperpure silicon for the semiconductor and solar solar industries.
At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) Manager, Maintenance Plant to be a part of our growing team.


The Plant Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing services and resources to Poly and Silanes production operations as necessary to provide for safe operations and maintain regulatory compliance and availability of production units. This position cooperates with groups and individuals within the Engineering & Maintenance department, Operations and other service units with focus on achieving optimal results/solutions from a corporate/enterprise perspective. This position will ensure all work performed meets safety requirements and all maintenance workers follow appropriate federal and state safety guidelines.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall plant maintenance and availability, which includes ensuring that equipment is operated and maintained according to manufacturer specifications, troubleshooting services, and all work performed meets safety requirements and guidelines
  • Assure availability of production units at required capacity and quality
  • Develop maintenance group/organization standards, policies and procedures
  • Oversee and direct maintenance personnel, equipment installation, facilities equipment repair and preventative maintenance
  • Manage maintenance budgets and cost centers
  • Responsible for managing a maintenance team of multi-craft, electrical and mechanical supervisors and technicians
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations departments and outside contractors to perform activities, repairs, preventive maintenance on production equipment and machines to avoid downtime and delays
  • Creating and following Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules, and overseeing a staff of maintenance as well as inspection and testing of equipment or building systems
  • Responsible for scheduling employees, managing the work load and maintenance backlog
  • Responsible for reviewing staff members' performance conducting performance reviews and development of MBO’s
  • Employee scheduling (for example managing absences for vacation, illness, shutdowns
  • Instruct and train maintenance team members under changing conditions
  • Recording maintenance progress in the area of responsibility; preparing daily, weekly and monthly reports
  • Planning, managing and coordinating maintenance processes and scheduling
  • Ensure all required trainings are completed in a timely manner by all team members in his/her area of responsibility
  • Performance of maintenance planning and scheduling functions in area of responsibility
  • Perform all tasks and assignments in accordance to Wacker’s policies and procedures
  • Drive and support continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality environmental protection, productivity, costs
  • Preparing and supervising routine repairs and maintenance work including major shutdowns; managing PM/MI inspections and making the equipment available for inspections
  • In addition to technical knowledge, must have knowledge of Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) (the application of preventive maintenance strategies in an organized and standardized method and excellent time management skills
  • Attention to detail and have the ability to follow specific, technical specifications and instructions is a must
  • Ability to coordinate and meet multiple deadlines

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree electrical/mechanical engineering Technology or related field or equivalent vocational/technical training
  • 5 years of experience in the manufacturing maintenance (chemical industry preferred)
  • 3 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing and equipment maintenance (chemical industry preferred)
  • Experience in the chemical industry STRONGLY preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure
  • Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements
  • Thorough understanding of engineering principles and Maintenance practices
  • Thorough technical knowledge in the field of EI&C/Mechanical Maintenance, including relevant regulations, standards and codes
  • Able to read and comprehend electrical/mechanical and control drawings and schematics
  • Familiar with Delta V / Siemens control systems
  • Leadership skills combined with team player attitude
  • Objective judgment and fact based decision making approach
  • Strong multi-tasking competency
  • Ability to meet the essential functions of the job
  • Willing to work weekends and rotating shifts
  • Ability and willingness for domestic and international travel (extended stay in Germany required from 1-4 months for training during start-up and commissioning)
  • Read, understand and apply the contents of all OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, NEC and other codes or regulations pertaining to our industry. Refresh and update knowledge periodically
  • Schedule of monthly inspections and preventative maintenance, ensuring the schedule is completed or alternative arrangements are made
  • Maintain regular communication with the Engineering and Operations departments, in accordance with established practices
  • Supervise, coach, mentor and provide training to EI&C and Mechanical Maintenance Technicians
