The Sales Manager ensures that the dealership meets its new and used car sales quota and its gross objectives on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis. He will ensure that the retail and fleet units sold produce sufficient gross to aid the dealership in reaching its profit objectives on a monthly and yearly basis. He will accomplish these objectives through planning, organizing, coordinating, and measuring the activities of the New and Used Sales Departments, as well as through inventory control.

Responsibilities:
- Determine monthly and yearly forecasts in terms of unit sales, gross profit objectives and departmental profits; strive to meet these goals
- Endure that all customers are “completely satisfied” and monitor and maintain excellent CSI scores
- Prepare and administer an annual operating budget for the Sales Department
- Hire, motivate, counsel and monitor the performance of all salespeople and managers
- Maintain top efficiency from New Car, Used Car and F&I Managers
- Forecast monthly with each salesperson objectives for time utilization, prospecting efforts, unit sales and projected income
- Plan, develop and schedule all advertising
- Make a monthly projection of the vehicle requirements by department for the immediate 90-day sales period
- Maintain a balanced new and used vehicle inventory and establish a program for moving new cars in inventory over 120 days and used cars over 60 days
- Recommend to the Dealer procedures for short and long range advertising, sales promotions, staffing needs, compensation plans, customer complaints and salespersons’ evaluations
- Conduct motivational and informative sales meetings
- Provide on the job training for salespeople
- Ensure that salespeople are following an established prospecting program to obtain optimum results
- Review monthly commission sheets, productivity reports, salespeople’s monthly forecasts and profit performance with the Dealer by salesperson and as a department
- Maintain excellent relationships with manufacturers and their representatives
- Require that standards be maintained for displaying, merchandising and maintaining new and used vehicles
- Ensure that all salespeople maintain a 100% turnover to the F&I Manager
- Work F&I desk when F&I Manager is absent
- Help salespeople work and close deals when necessary
- Strive for harmony and teamwork with all other departments
- Keep an accurate count of floor traffic
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Two years of automotive sales experience
- One year in a dealership management position
- Excellent communication, managerial, leadership and interpersonal skills
- A valid in-state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record according to dealership guidelines
