OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist—Payroll & Benefits will ensure accurate processing and recording of the organization’s payroll, benefits, and leave programs; provide timely and accurate financial information and data entry; and perform other human resource work as required in a collaborative team environment. The Human Resources Generalist is part of a three-person Human Resources team at the Walters, dedicated to creating and supporting a people-centered Human Resources department and environment at the museum.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Payroll

  • Understand all aspects of payroll, including payroll laws and regulations.
  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll.
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees in the areas of compensation, taxes, and timekeeping.
  • Perform daily payroll operations.
  • Process employee data (new hires, changes, etc.).
  • Process 457b Retirement Plan and garnishment payments.
  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting (W-2).
  • Process parking check request payments to vendors and associated payroll deductions for employees.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Department and provide timely and relevant payroll reports and information.
  • Make recommendations concerning upgrades and changes to the Human Resources Information System.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits and Leave

  • Manage the benefits and leave platforms through the City of Baltimore’s benefits program.
  • Interface with the City of Baltimore regarding employee benefits provided by the City.
  • Work with the Human Resources team to manage the leave for all employees.
  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of benefits open enrollment.
  • Assist employees with initial benefit selection, enrollment, and changes.
  • Ensure all new, existing, and transitioning employees’ benefits are properly processed in a timely manner with the appropriate benefit levels and deductions while providing employees with relevant and timely information.
  • Review and analyze state and federal laws pertaining to benefits and retirement, and report necessary or suggested changes to the Senior Director of Human Resources and leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Recruitment

  • Support the administration of talent acquisition, including job postings, recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and workforce planning.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Human Resources to create, implement, and manage a streamlined recruitment strategy.
  • Collaborate with leaders at all levels to develop recruitment approaches for select positions.
  • Ensure I-9s and other work verification are accurate, retained, and in compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Human Resources

  • Assist Human Resources team administratively on a variety of Human Resource related issues and tasks including invoice reconciliation and processing, employment verifications, and employee file management.
  • Support the administration of talent acquisition through orientation.
  • Maintain and support a variety of reports and queries utilizing appropriate reporting tools; develop and administer standard reports for statistical analysis and ongoing customer needs (including metrics); develop and administer system dashboards.
  • Help maintain data integrity in systems by running audit queries and analyzing data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish)
  • At least 35 years’ experience in payroll processing and human resources is required.
  • Prior HRIS experience required. Paycom and Workday experience preferred.
  • Payroll certification preferred.
  • SHRM-CP and/or PHR certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll best practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources and payroll federal and state regulations.
  • Demonstrated PC knowledge, including proficiency in Excel.
  • Must be detail oriented with a demonstrated work ethic.
  • Must have demonstrated experience working with a team.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and prioritization abilities.
  • Bachelors Degree in Human Resources Administration preferred
