Greenhouse Stock Manager
Walters Gardens is seeking a talented candidate to plan and manage our Stock Department. We’re looking for a self-motivated individual with a positive outlook, high attention to detail and a drive for efficiency. This individual will: plan stock potting, forecast cutting and division availability, manage cutting crews, ensure production goals, plan stock dormancy, and collaborate with various other departments. To succeed in this role, strong communication and organizational skills with an ability to multitask and problem solve are essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Stock management
- Create new stock plants by collaborating with clean plant managers to use the cleanest plant material available
- Collaborate with Inventory manager to determine correct amount of stock material to create, based on sales demand and timing
- Direct stock dormancy program to ensure stock plants receive the correct dormancy to re-emerge vigorous and on time
- Work with growers and cutting leaders to maintain cuttings yields and plant health
Cutting and division supply
- Provide Inventory Manager with an accurate cutting and division supply forecast, based on number of stock plants and cutting/division yields per plant
- Review weekly Purchase Order confirmation with cutting leaders to determine if purchase orders can be fulfilled with available material for cuttings and divisions
- Record stock yields to determine productivity of stock plants and use in future stock planning
- Work with cutting crew leaders and division workers to maintain cutting and division specifications, techniques and efficient workflow
- Work with growers to produce high quality plant material for cuttings and plant divisions
Growing
- Participate in information exchange on growing related issues including: fertility, irrigation, environment, pest management and plant growth regulators
Leadership
- Manage Stock Team leaders in daily and weekly tasks:
o Directly supervise and training of 5 Stock team members
o Indirectly supervise of 24 non-English speaking crew members
o Participate in hands-on activities on a regular basis to strengthen teamwork within the Stock Department
- Implement continuous improvement techniques, including lean practices and process reviews in all aspects of the Stock Department
- Participate in extra-circular activities with approval and guidance from supervisor
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in related field
- 1 year of leadership experience preferred
- 1 year of growing experience preferred, either professional or hobbyist
- Basic working Spanish skills preferred
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills
- Experience in Microsoft Office and Teams, especially in Excel
Salary : $44,900 - $56,800
