Are you a people person with a passion for libraries and customer service? Do you enjoy helping the public discover new books, navigate library resources, and create a welcoming library environment? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Part-Time Customer Service Assistant with the Circulation Department at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library!  As a Part-Time Customer Service Assistant, you will be the friendly face that greets our customers, assists them with their library needs, and ensures they have a positive experience during their visit. You will play a vital role in providing excellent customer service and promoting library services and programs.  


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in routine public service by circulating materials to customers, which includes checking materials in and out, placing holds, registering borrowers, collecting fines and fees.
  • Provides basic reference and reader’s advisory service to customers of all ages.
  • Assists in department operations - opening and closing the desk, counting money, balancing cash register, filling displays, emptying book and video drops, sorting materials, setting up book trucks, shelving materials, reading shelves, etc.
  • Performs clerical tasks related to processing Search Ohio materials to include searching lists, checking in, labeling, distributing, and packaging to send to other libraries.
  • Answers the telephone, responds to inquiries and directs calls, uses public address system.
  • Attends to public use photocopiers - adds paper, assists customers with    machine problems, contacts supervisor regarding service needs.
  • Provides users with general information about library services, directing them to other departments as appropriate.
  • Applies library policy to be consistent with circulation procedures in public service situations.
  • Registers voters and Golden Buckeye applicants.
  • Handles returned mail.  Mails appropriate policy forms with library cards.  Enters customer registration data into computer.  Maintains application files.


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent.  Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.  Comfortable with basic computer operations and a willingness to learn library-specific software.  Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.  Ability to work a flexible part-time schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.  Previous library or customer service experience is desirable but not required.
