Davis Landfill Layton:
- M-Sat. rotate 10 hour shifts/40 wk
- 7:00 am to 6:00 pm (summer) 7:00 am to 5:00 pm (winter)

This is a highly skilled position in the operation of heavy construction equipment. Requires skills operating dozer, trash compactor, excavator, road grader and other heavy equipment. The employee is responsible for the efficient operation of equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform daily inspections of equipment to be operated.
- Operate heavy equipment (specifically a compacter, bulldozer, and/or soil moving equipment) and related equipment to compact and cover waste materials daily.
- Maintain a clean and assessable face operation.
- Safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment related to the landfill support facilities
(specifically Green Waste Facility and Citizen Pad) owned by the district.
- Provides Guidance and instruction to Landfill Spotters and/or other personal working in the same area on daily basis.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate various Landfill equipment.
- Blow out and keep equipment clean.
- Maintain a smooth and debris free access to the face.
- Assist in green waste area, operating loader, trammel screen, woodchipper and/or wind row turner.
- Drive Roll-Off truck as needed.
- May assist other personnel when there is no need for heavy equipment operation.
- Perform general facility and grounds maintenance work and other job related work as required.
- Performs other duties or tasks as assigned by the Landfill Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently leaving a 15-foot clearance from all vehicles.
- Ability to direct the work of laborers and spotters in tasks related to the public.
- Ability to keep record of time spent and material used.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work safely and follow safety practices and techniques.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, and general public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 18 years.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3 years minimum required experience: operating dozers, compactors and excavators at the level of Heavy Equipment Operator. (NOT FORKLIFT)
- 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification in current status or ability to complete certificate in one year.
- Must complete hunter safety course within one year of hire.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- CDL license not required but preferred
