Job Description: Provides high profile, uniformed public safety and security services to supplement and assist full-time Public Safety Staff. Part-time Officers may be assigned to mobile patrol or a specific location/detail such as University Chapel security or event security during a given shift. Position requires availability on an as needed/available basis primarily during daylight hours, especially weekends, including holidays. ESSENTIAL AND RELATED FUNCTIONS: Performs active and regular patrols of all campus areas and provides effective response to calls for service, as dispatched. Performs parking related responsibilities such as parking enforcement, lots surveys, and traffic control, etc. regularly and consistently. Acts as a knowledgeable resource to students, staff and visitors to campus. Provides general information such as directions as well as more up to date information about campus events and activities. Provides safety and security services at University Chapel by enforcing University Chapel rules and regulations. Provides basic greeter function for all Chapel visitors/guests. Monitors security camera systems for University camera systems including the University Chapel. Monitor and respond to Chapel security alarms; i.e. burglary, panic, fire, etc. Provides safety and security services at large University events. Enforces University policies, rules, and regulations. Assists with traffic and parking operations as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Successful candidate will possess a high degree of reliability, ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Successful candidate will also possess the ability to relate well to students, faculty and a diverse community. Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license and a good driving history. Must be able to pass an extensive background check. Working Conditions: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to extreme cold: Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity. Types of Work: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
