Background
Washington Masonic Services is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that works closely with the Masonic Grand Lodge of Washington. Washington Masonic Services provides programs and services for people in need, primarily older adults; awards scholarships; and operates the Washington Masonic Library & Museum. The Washington Masonic Library & Museum is a collection of approximately 50,000 books and documents, 3,000 Masonic-related objects, and more than 250,000 physical and digital images.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Museum Curator will oversee the operations of the Washington Masonic Library & Museum located in University Place Washington. This on-site position develops and implements plans for the advancement of both the library and museum, making it a regional destination for Masonic and community members. An emphasis will be on highlighting the Fraternity’s past and present impact on the formation and continued growth of Washington State.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement a strategic Collections Plan designed to illuminate Masonry’s impact in Washington’s past, present and future.
- Develop and implement a plan to enhance visibility of the Library & Museum by promoting collections and educational opportunities.
- Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers.
- Participate in raising funds and obtaining grants to expand collections and update the facility.
- Participate in developing the annual budget.
- Maintain records and cataloging of acquisitions.
- Collaborate with other institutions.
- Ensure collections are properly preserved.
- Other duties as needed.
Minimum Position Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience successfully developing, managing, or enhancing collections.
- Demonstrated experience successfully managing a library or museum.
- Familiarity with conservation techniques and their practical application in a museum setting.
- Demonstrated experience successfully working with and leading volunteers.
- Able to effectively present and communicate messages through displays.
- Superb project management and organizational skills.
- Experience with museum databases.
- Understanding of Freemasonry, or willingness to learn about Freemasonry.
- Bachelor degree in a relevant field or 5 years related experience.
