OVERVIEW:

The Director of Nursing provides administrative oversite and assistance to the Hospital Administrator in the development, organization, implementation, and evaluation of Clinical Operations, in accordance with accepted practice and hospital policies and procedures. This includes personnel oversight, providing on-going Quality Improvement monitors, ensuring current standards are met and ensuring that the skills and educational needs of the hospital staff are met. The DON is responsible for the quality of patient care. The DON ensures that safe patient care is provided by qualified, competent, patient care staff to all patients.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Creates, monitors, and rolls out nursing staff scheduling.
  • Ensures assigned work (i.e. nursing station, med. cart, medication room, etc.), resident/patient care rooms and treatment areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. Monitor supplies and orders as needed
  • Attends regularly conducted staff meeting as scheduled by the Director of Nursing/Unit Manager and participates regularly in continuing education in-service programs
  • Works to ensure nursing staff have the education and skills to support their applicable roles.
  • Oversite of daily nursing functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Provides Administration oversight to the daily operations of WRMC
  • Ensures standards of patient care are met through the Quality Assurance programs
  • Works daily towards meeting current regulatory standards for the facility
  • Addresses problems involving personnel, medical staff, patient, visitors, and community
  • Defines the overall purposes of the hospital in accordance with the hospital vision
  • Plans with education department to in-service training for the hospital employees
  • Plans and operates within the approved budget of the corporate staff
  • Responsible for the cost-effective programs presented by the corporate staff
  • Identifies problems and communicates solutions to appropriate personnel
  • Keeps open communication with the medical staff and hospital administrator
  • Provides opportunities for growth and development of WRMC
  • Holds staff meetings to provide opportunity for participative planning
  • Manage and supervise hospital infection control programs, ethics committee, patient satisfaction committee
  • Leads and participates in patient satisfaction committee, falls and patient safety
  • Participate in Risk/Grievance investigations using root cause analysis strategies toward operational improvement, coordinating with the Risk Manager and Grievance Coordinator/Officer
  • Responsible for overseeing nurse and support to team in the nursing department
  • Direct patients to the appropriate resources or research issue for the patient
  • Promotes services of the hospital to the employees, patients, visitors, and community members
  • Coordinates and/or assists with the development of the annual reports, resource guides and other departmental publications
  • Develops, implements, and reviews a risk assessment for the medical staff
  • Provides direct patient care if needed
  • Perform any other duties that may be necessary for the operation of the corporation and/or hospital
  • Assist with staff coverage when needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma
  • Graduate of accredited School of Nursing, with current licensure by NCBON
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing required
  • Previous Charge Nurse / Nursing Leadership experience required
  • Current ACLS preferred
  • Current BLS
  • Current CPR Certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time
  • Manual dexterity and use of a calculator or computer keyboard.
  • Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting
  • Occasionally lifts to 50 pounds
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal ranges
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours
  • Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionization radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital and/or clinic environment

Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
