As a Driver Trainee, you will undergo thorough training under the guidance of experienced professionals to become a proficient and safe commercial driver and obtain your Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Upon completion of your schooling, you will join our Waste Connections of Louisiana team, as well as have future promotional growth opportunities at Waste Connections sites around the country.
Key Responsibilities :
- Participate in classroom and hands-on training sessions to learn about commercial driving regulations, vehicle operation, safety procedures, and company policies.
- Shadow experienced drivers to observe and learn best practices for vehicle operation, navigation, and customer interaction.
- Assist with pre-trip inspections, vehicle maintenance tasks, and loading / unloading procedures as required.
- Follow instructions from trainers and supervisors to develop essential driving skills, including proper maneuvering, backing, and defensive driving techniques.
- Complete assigned training modules, exams, and evaluations to assess progress and readiness for CDL testing.
- Maintain accurate records of training activities, hours logged, and performance evaluations.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies at all times.
- Communicate effectively with trainers, supervisors, and team members to address questions, concerns, and feedback.
Minimum Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass DOT physical exam and drug / alcohol screenings.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Strong commitment to safety, professionalism, and customer service.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects, as required.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
