SEA - Site Coordinator - Special Rec Camp
Status of Employment:
Seasonal, Non-Exempt
Description:
Provide supervision of seasonal Day Camp Counselors, volunteers, and campers in Special Recreation. Planning, organizing, supervision, implementation, and oversight of daily schedule of activities for youth with a disability in both indoor and outdoor day camp recreational settings.
Duties:
- Provide direct leadership and supervision to assigned summer day camp programs and services working with children with a disability.
- Provide developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of the participants.
- Implement activities in program setting according to established schedule.
- Assist in the evaluation of programs and services in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Make and implement recommendations.
- Assist in training, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff and volunteers.
- Coordinate with Recreation Specialist and Recreation Supervisor to schedule staff.
- Assist with assessments of new program participants.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of reports and records regarding participants, programs, and services.
- Ensure counselors maintain facilities in a clean, organized, and neat manner.
- Accompany program participants on field trips.
- May transport program participants and supplies using a park district vehicle.
- Participate with program participants in scheduled daily activities; swim with program participants two to three days a week; ride along on pick-up and drop off routes.
- Assist in the purchase, distribution, and maintenance of proper inventory of all supplies and materials.
- Establish cooperative working relationships with co-workers and parents.
- Assist with other recreation programs and special events as needed.
- Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions.
- Conduct self-according to the policies and procedures as established by the park district.
- Participate in park district Safety and Training Program to ensure that work performed, and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.
- May open and close facilities. Monitor facilities and equipment.
- Wear assigned uniforms while on duty.
- Assist staff in the performance of their duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school graduation required.
- Some college preferred.
Experience:
- Experience working with youth.
- Supervision of groups of youth in a recreational setting.
- Experience working with children with special needs preferred.
- Supervision of seasonal staff and volunteers in a recreational setting preferred.
Knowledge:
- General knowledge of recreation, parks and leisure service field.
- General knowledge of day camp programs and services for youth with disabilities.
- General knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for youth with disabilities in a recreational environment.
License:
- Valid driver's license required for programs including transportation, otherwise preferred.
Certification:
- Valid Child/ Adult First Aid, CPR, & AED certification.
- Valid Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification preferred.
Hours:
Morning and Afternoon hours, Monday-Friday, approximately 20-40 hours per week.
