Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan.

The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 12th grade campuses.

The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

The Child Find Coordinator is directly responsible to the Director of Special Education Compliance and Monitoring. He / she will oversee the Federal and State mandates and obligations for Child Find and develop systems and ongoing referral structures from birth through twenty-one.

Responsibilities :

  • 1) Develop and maintain a list of community referral services and agencies;
  • 2) Conduct public awareness and marketing activities targeting families and other primary referral sources;
  • 3) Ensure all diagnostic team members including related service, and assessment staff are hired for both the school year and summer;
  • 4) Direct all screening activities to actively seek out infants and toddlers with disabilities, and maintain procedures to assure compliance with current laws and regulations;
  • 5) Collect, maintain, and report relevant data as may be required throughout the year;
  • 6) Maintain accurate records for all children served through Child Find and Birth to Three program;;
  • 7) Provide leadership and effective communication with all partners as defined by areas of responsibilities;
  • 8) Facilitate and monitor all Special Education and Bilingual activities for identification, compliance and screening;
  • 9) Create and maintain a master calendar and schedule for Child Find and Birth to Three activities;
  • 10) Collaborate with each district union to follow contractual guidelines;
  • 11) Stay current in mandates and obligations for early identification and education as well as any changes defined through political or policy adjustments;
  • 12) Insure active district representation with Local Interagency Council (LIC);
  • 13) Evaluate the Child Find and Birth to Three staff members in collaboration with related service coordinators;;
  • 14) Update procedures and practices based on District and State guidelines;
  • 15) Maintain and monitor the Child Find and Birth to Three Budget;
  • 16) Ensure all grant requirements are met and the grant is updated and submitted as required by ISBE;
  • 17) Facilitate Reflective Supervision with all home visitors;
  • 18) Complete Baby Talk or designated Home Visiting training and recertify every five years;
  • 20) Attend an annual Resource fair and establish a display to promote the dept;
  • 21) Maintain the CQIP and all state reporting;
  • 22) Collaborate with EPIC preschool leadership to maintain a cohesive Birth to Five program;

22) Any and all duties as assigned.

Qualifications : (1) Must have a valid Illinois Type 75; (2) Masters in Education; (3) Knowledge and experience in area of special education, preschool and / or pupil services;

4) Experience with grant writing; (5) Effective written and oral communication skills. Salary : TBD
