Salary Range, $18-20 an hour starting
Position Description: A full-time position providing resources and supportive services to Veterans enrolled in Transitional Shelter services at Welcome Home.
Position Type: Full-Time, hourly, Non-Exempt.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm (40 hours a week).
Reports to: Shelter Program manager
Supervises: None
Collaborates with: Transitional Shelter staff; Permanent Housing staff; House Managers; VETS Work staff; All other WH staff; External agencies and partners; Volunteers and the Public.
Basic Function: The Resource Specialist provides services and resources to Veterans enrolled in the Transitional Shelter Program. Cross collaboration with other Clinical programs mandatory. Key duties include providing transportation to essential appointments, assisting in securing and delivering food/groceries to Veterans sheltered offsite (motel), coordinating referrals, assisting in locating housing in the community, discharge assistance, and supporting Shelter Case Management as needed.
Principal Duties & Accountabilities:
- Provides resources and housing related supportive services to Veterans
- Provides eligibility screening to applicants for agency services and refers them to appropriate program to meet their needs.
- Completes tasks essential for Veterans Sheltered in facility and motel to have basic needs met, such as grocery shopping and coordinating payment for hotel bed nights
- Collects and maintains accurate and detailed records.
- Assist with Shelter discharge and move out process for Veterans exiting Shelter services
- Assist in coordination service with partner agencies
- Communicate across programs as a part of the clinical team
- Provide Transportation services, including daily VA Shuttle
- Participates in all appropriate staff, supervision, and training meetings.
- Work a 40 hours/week
- Assumes other duties as assigned by the Shelter Program Manager or Clinical Director.
Desired Qualifications:
- Excellent skills in written and oral communication.
- Familiarity with the Housing First Model and Trauma Informed Care
- Experience working with an ethically and culturally diverse population
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience (preferably in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, other human services)
- Experience working in a fast-paced office environment
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Familiarity with office technology, digital communication, and Microsoft Office products
- Ability to perform basic physical functions, such lifting/moving boxes weighing 20lbs or less, and normal cleaning duties, such as sweeping/mopping/disinfecting
- Two years’ experience working with Veterans
- Veteran Status
Required Training/Certifications (can be acquired after hire):
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Class E License
