Exchange Manager (Student Employment)
Position Overview
The Weld RE-5J school district is seeking a highly motivated and talented High School student to join our team as our school store manager. This opportunity will provide valuable hands-on experience and exposure to various aspects of information technology while working in a professional environment. The Exchange Manager help oversee operations of the school store during school events. This position demands outstanding communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and multitasking capabilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inventory management: Keeping track of stock levels and ordering supplies as needed.
Sales and customer service: Assisting customers, handling transactions, and addressing any concerns or inquiries.
Budgeting and financial management: Keeping track of sales and expenses to ensure the store operates within budget.
Financial management: Balance cash drawer by counting drawer at the start of a shift, getting a sales report at end of a shift, counting physical cash, reconciling any differences, recording cash transactions, returning starting balance to drawer.
Scheduling and supervision: Coordinating shifts for store staff and overseeing their work.
Marketing and promotion: Coming up with strategies to attract customers and increase sales, such as creating promotions or advertising campaigns.
Maintaining a clean and organized store environment: Ensuring the store is tidy and presentable for customers.
Reporting: Providing regular reports to school administrators or advisors on store performance and any issues that arise.
Required Skills, Experience and Abilities
Currently enrolled in a high school program, preferably with a focus on information technology or related fields.
Customer Service: Interacting with customers in a friendly and helpful manner, addressing their needs and concerns.
Communication Skills: Effectively conveying information to customers, co-workers, and supervisors, both verbally and in writing.
Organization: Managing inventory, restocking shelves, and keeping the store tidy and well-organized.
Basic Math:Handling cash transactions, making change, and calculating prices.
Teamwork: Collaborating with fellow students and staff members to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction.
Problem-Solving: Quickly resolving issues such as inventory discrepancies, customer complaints, or equipment malfunctions.
Time Management: Balancing schoolwork with store responsibilities and prioritizing tasks effectively.
Salesmanship: Promoting products, upselling complementary items, and using persuasive techniques to boost sales.
Adaptability: Being flexible and able to handle unexpected situations, such as changes in store policies or busy periods with increased customer traffic.
Students will be required to complete 5 hours of onboarding/training at the beginning of each semester.
Education and Training Three semesters of successful coursework in the business pathway or the ACE pathway. Preference for those students who have previous experience working in the Exchange or another retail business/coffee shop. Students should be enrolled in Work-based learning through ACE and/or Business Administration/Marketing in the 2024-2025 school year.
Confidential Information
Staff members shall not access, receive, transmit or retransmit material regarding students, parents/guardians or district employees that is protected by confidentiality laws.
If material is not legally protected but is of a confidential or sensitive nature, great care shall be taken to ensure that only those with a “need to know” are allowed access to the material.
Staff members shall handle all employee, student, and district records in accordance with applicable district policies.
Staff members who intentionally disclose student records, other confidential student information and/or district information may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
