Position Summary: The Lead Sanitation Tech maintains good housekeeping, GMP’s and sanitary conditions in all areas in and around the plant including production, packaging, warehouse, food ingredient receiving and storage systems to meet the sites Quality and Food Safety Manual. This is done by daily monitoring of facility conditions, employee task completion, training & working with other departments to ensure all sanitation needs are met.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform CIP and general cleaning and sanitation responsibilities as assigned throughout the plant.
- Under the direction of the Sanitation Supervisor, inspects, promotes and maintains adherence to food safety cleanliness in the handling or product, ingredients and finished goods using proper work procedures and compliance with Food Safety Standards as defined by the FDA, FSSC 22000, BRC and/or HACCP programs.
- Verify completion of daily sanitation tasks by checking the tracking sheets and following up with sanitation employees for tasks that are not completed.
- Give daily guidance and direction to other sanitation employees.
- Work with department supervisors to help perform needed tasks such as material spill cleanup, waste removal, etc.
- Monitor the training of new sanitation employees and temporary employees on sanitation tasks and procedures. Help complete the training when necessary.
- Verify that we have received the proper quantities of received items by cross checking against the shipments packing slip. This will usually be for cleaning supplies and chemicals.
- Properly storing cleaning chemicals and supplies when restock orders arrive.
- Understand and use chemical or non-chemical pest control systems.
- Ensure chemical containers are properly marked and tagged with the ability to track chemical inventory.
- Follow and hold others accountable for following all company Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Workplace Safety:
- Completes safety system documentation and verifies compliance to program standards. Reports deviations to Supervisor.
- Participates in mandatory safety trainings and adheres to all safety policies
- Required to report all safety issues, near misses, and injuries
Quality & Food Safety:
- Completes quality & food safety system documentation and verifies compliance to program standards. Reports deviations to Supervisor.
- Participates in mandatory food safety and quality training program requirements
- Preserves the integrity of the BRC system through adherence to the policies and procedures outlined. Takes actions necessary to resolve food safety and quality system deficiencies
- Required to report food safety and quality system failures and take actions necessary to preserve the BRC system.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to read, write, and communicate using the English language.
- Ability to work in an environment which includes frequent exposure to elements such as odor, noise, heat, cold, dust and chemicals.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and perform tasks on a ladder or at heights.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs frequently and consecutively
- Ability to understand chemical usage procedures, personal protective equipment, and apply that knowledge safely to the sanitation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of visual work control and 5S is a plus.
- Experience using forklifts, scissor lifts, and bobcats.
